Event Recap: 2024 NSPE-MA Annual Meeting
The 2024 NSPE-MA Annual Meeting was held on July 25. Currently-seated NSPE-MA Board Members participated, as we are mid-way through our biannual officer election cycle. The meeting was open to all members, and two guests attended in-person at the office of LIG Consultants while others participated virtually via videoconference or teleconference. Agenda topics ranged from member outreach initiatives to forward event planning, with reports from Committee Chairs of MATHCOUNTS MA, MSPE Events & Programs, and Marketing & Communications, in addition to discussion regarding National and Regional NSPE initiatives.
Systems Software Integrator (SSI) Certification Opportunity
Testing Deadline: October 31
|
NSPE’s certification division, NICET, is launching a new SSI Certification Program designed for professionals engaged in the integration of software into physical systems.
More frequently than ever, software is used to control physical systems. These cyberphysical integrations must be executed with rigorous adherence to guiding principles and best practices that ensure reliable and secure systems.
| |
|
|
The certification exam covers four domains: Program Management, Quality Assurance, Systems Integration, and Risk Mitigation.
Be Among the First to Achieve SSI Certification: Beta testing is a crucial stage in the development of a certification program. Beta candidates receive 50% off the application fee. The testing window runs through October 31. Qualified candidates must submit an application, complete a work history description that documents and meets specific industry related experience, and pass the certification exam. View the SSI Candidate Handbook for full details.

Volunteer to Proctor or Score Tests at Competitions In Feb-Mar 2025
Seven Chapter Competitions (leading up to the State Competition) will be held across MA during the first two weeks of February, 2025. The schedule will be published in November on the MATHCOUNTS page of mspe.com.
The 2025 State Competition will be held on Saturday, March 1 at the office of Stantec Consulting Services Inc. in Burlington, MA. MA MATHCOUNTS thanks Stantec for the generous sponsorship and providing the competition space.

Event Recap: Shore Solar Facility Event
|
On September 25, NSPE-MA members and non-member guests experienced a free professional development event at the Shore Solar facility in Johnston, RI.
Anthony Morreale, PE, Principal Engineer with LIG Consultants and Electrical Engineer of Record for the Shore Solar Project, was the presenter. He shared several key details regarding the design, construction, and operation of solar projects. Tony then led participants on a tour of the utility-scale ground-mount solar photovoltaic site, where they learned about the site’s 9,272 solar panels, 37 inverters, and 3 medium-voltage transformers. NSPE-MA is grateful to site owner Revity Energy for hosting this event.

Event Recap: NSPECon24 & State Leadership Summit
|
Hundreds of multi-disciplinary professional engineers from across the nation gathered to experience growth and connection opportunities at NSPECon24 from Aug 7-9 in Raleigh, NC. Keynote speakers offered career inspiration and guidance, and discussed emerging issues within the industry. Three distinct tracks focused on leadership skills; timely issues and trends; and career investment.
Paul Robinson, PE, NSPE-MA President-elect and Larry Nelson, PE, NSPE-MA Director and State Delegate to NSPE, participated in NSPECon24. They also represented NSPE-MA at the NSPE State Leadership Summit, a full-day pre-conference event where leaders collaborated, built community, and discussed programs that the NSPE federation provides in support of members on the national, state, and local levels.
The Summit focused on strategic goals of attracting and retaining members by engaging them more fully to drive chapter growth and enhance the value of member investment. To this end, a skilled facilitator encouraged Summit participants to connect, explore, and share best practices to achieve the mutual goal of NSPE and its State Societies of cultivating growth by promoting benefits that consistently resonate with current and prospective members throughout every stage of their careers.
Going forward, key summit outcomes will be reflected in member prospecting and support tools on the National and State levels, as well as new and updated traditional and online resources.

This year’s QBS Award winner was announced in August, and the award will be presented to Alabama State Senator Clyde Chambliss, Jr. on October 22 at the ACEC Fall Conference.
The next opportunity for QBS Award nomination will be in June 2025, and awards will be presented at NSPECon25. Visit this page for further details as they become available.
| |
About the QBS Award: NSPE and ACEC partner annually to administer the National QBS Awards, recognizing public and private entities and/or individuals making exemplary use, or making extraordinary contributions to the advancement, of the Qualifications-Based Selection process at federal, state and local levels. National QBS Award winners serve as examples of how well the QBS process works, and they help NSPE and ACEC promote the practice in jurisdictions that do not use, or underuse, QBS to procure engineering services.
