A Word From the Artistic Director/Conductor

We're back! We are super excited to enter our 65th year at the Torrance Civic Chorale (est. 1961)! We have something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue this year with our traditional performances, a new collaboration with the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band, outstanding performers from neighboring choirs, and our very new and blue vocal jazz ensemble class (Torrance Civic Jazz Singers). I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer and you are ready to sing! Returning members may enroll now while new members will have the opportunity to audition/interview on our first day, Sept. 9, at 4 pm or 9:30 pm, and then enroll afterward. Let's do this! Sing, sing, sing!!!!

JAZZ SINGERS IN CONCERT

"Pure Imagination" featuring Coleen Charles and the Torrance Civic Jazz Singers at the Disney Celebration, 5/3/24.

This will be a concert not to be missed. The TCC and TCVJE are joining forces with the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band to present a "Holiday Celebration" like no other! We will sing the entire concert accompanied by the PVSB on Dec. 21, 2024 at 7:30 pm. Also on the show will be some a cappella performances, the Jazz Singers Combo, and, of course, this will all be capped off by the Hallelujah Chorus, Peace, Peace, and our Community Sing! Tickets will be available soon!

Yes!!! Where can you hear the best of gospel/spirituals, soul, rhythm and blues, and funk all in one concert? At the TCC/TCVJE Spring Concert, Music for the Soul: Gospel, Soul, and Rhythm and Blues. We will have a live and funky horn band and perform music from Aretha Franklin and James Brown, to Earth, Wind, and Fire, to Tower of Power, to the Stevie Wonder, the Jackson Five, the Blues Brothers and more! Look for the date of the concert, scheduled in the Armstrong Theatre for late May!

VOCAL JAZZ ENSEMBLE IN TORRANCE

It's a thing. Actually in place informally for about a year, the Torrance Civic Vocal Jazz Ensemble is now offered as a new class supported by the City of Torrance on Mondays from 5:15-7:15 pm. The group performed last year in all of the traditional TCC events plus two local jazz festivals (in Fullerton and San Diego) and will be adding another festival to their schedule this year, singing at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo.

Vocal Jazz Ensembles are the current industry standard of large vocal jazz groups that grew out of swing choirs and jazz choirs of the 1950s-70s. Improvisation, every singer on a mic, and vocal transcriptions of traditional jazz band charts are all part of this exciting type of ensemble. We are accepting singers after an audition and are looking for a regular bass player and drummer to join our group. Contact Dr. Trimis at TCCDirector@torranceca.gov for more info. THE TCC at ECC

The Torrance Civic Chorale sang what was, hopefully, the first of many Young People's Concerts at El Camino College on April 13. the concert was a preview of the Disney Celebration for the South Bay Children's Choir and invited guests.
