On Saturday, the community came together to celebrate the opening of the Darby Creek Trail Extension with a special ceremony, ribbon-cutting, and stroll along the new trail. It was a perfect day to celebrate this exciting addition to Haverford Township!
The new extension connects Merry Place to MacDonald Field, creating a continuous 1.5-mile trail and more opportunities for residents to enjoy the outdoors and explore our community.
Beyond the trail itself, the project included streambank restoration, additional plantings, and a new spur connecting the trail to the Glendale and Burmont Road intersection. Improvements to sightlines, sidewalks, crosswalks, and signage also help improve safety and connectivity throughout the area.
It’s wonderful to see this project come to fruition and celebrate another improvement in our trail network. Check out these photos from Joel Perlish Photography capturing the excitement of the day!

Meanwhile, a major PennDOT-led transportation project is also making progress right here in our community. The I-476/West Chester Pike (Route 3) project is entering its final stage, and you may have noticed recent progress, including lanes reopening.
PennDOT has confirmed that over the next couple of weeks, their crews will focus on milling and paving within the project limits. This work will take place at night, with temporary lane restrictions during those hours. All lanes are expected to remain open during the day.
Once paving is complete, crews will install permanent pavement markings and signs and finish the remaining work. PennDOT anticipates that all physical work on the project will be completed by December.
We know this PennDOT project has required patience from residents and commuters, so it’s encouraging to see progress as the work approaches completion! To learn more about the project and find updates directly from PennDOT, visit this dedicated page.
