What is tethering or double docking?

River ships all share docking ports in Europe. Throughout your river cruise it is likely the ship will be docked next to one or two other river ships. During this time, your view from your stateroom may temporarily be obscured by a neighboring ship. It is important to note that in these cases, docking near other ships may entail navigating stairs, lobbies, or narrow gangways, situations beyond the control of AmaWaterways.

A post from a friend with some impact....

I promised more stories, so here is a note I received from a recent traveler:

Tuesday night on the ship I began experiencing what was later diagnosed as a transient bradycardia event (my heart slowed way down and my breathing became labored). I reported to the ship’s medical early Wednesday morning and they ran tests showing the bradycardia. We were in port in Tortola and they made immediate plans to send me by ambulance to the Tortola emergency room. I was transferred and at 10 pm Wednesday night my heart rate and breathing returned to normal. On Thursday Tracy and I were transported by ambulance to the Tortola airport and flown by air ambulance in a Learjet 45 to Fort Lauderdale with a customs/refuel stop in San Juan. We were taken by ambulance to Broward Health Medical Center and I was admitted. They ran a battery of tests and exams - amazing staff! They believe it was a transient event and my risk to travel and for future recurrence was low. I will see a cardiologist in Marietta when we arrive back home. I was discharged Friday, we got a hotel and are flying home today. Our kids were troopers, they packed our suitcases for us and are driving our car home for us. The kids rode down in one car, so it worked out for them to get our car back to Georgia. Tracy was amazing throughout, managing medical staff, insurance, and logistics. I am blessed with an awesome family, just sorry we couldn’t finish the cruise together. One piece of advice when traveling: BUY TRIP INSURANCE! We have no clue yet what this adventure cost, but it could easily approach $100k - and we are covered! Sorry for the long post.
