WHAT'S NEW
Transgender Day of Remembrance
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) is observed annually on November 20 to memorialize those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia. It is a day to draw attention to the continuing epidemic of violence endured by transgender people. During this year’s virtual gathering on NOV 20 at 4pm we will hold space for community mourning, reflection, and healing. The event will also feature speakers, poets, and a community open mic. Counselors will be available during the event. You may register for the Zoom session here or visit our YouTube streaming link (no registration required).

Collaborating organizations include: San Mateo County LGBTQ Commission; San Mateo County Pride Initiative; San Mateo County Pride Center; ACS Outlet; Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse (CORA); Evergreen Giving Tree; Redwood City Public Library; Island United Church of Foster City

NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY FOUNDATION
Tuesday, December 1 is the National Day of Giving, also known as Giving Tuesday. Observed every year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, it is a reminder to share with others after a weekend of shopping. The Day of Giving was founded in 2012 by New York City’s 92nd Street Y partnering with the United Nations Foundation to focus on charitable giving after Black Friday and Cyber Monday commercial spending. Since then it has grown into a global movement that inspires millions of people to celebrate sharing. In July of 2019, Giving Tuesday spun out into its own international organization promoting global generosity. In 2019, Giving Tuesday in the US raised a total of $1.97 billion to benefit nonprofits nationally, with $51 million of that donated online.

Wouldn’t you like to participate in this global event? The Redwood City Library Foundation has set up a Resiliency fund to support our library programs even while the buildings remain closed, and the Foundation Board will match the first $5,000 in donations received before December 31, 2020. We encourage you to support the Foundation and the Library and join millions of others in celebrating the National Day of Giving by donating on that day (or before or after). Please give at: www.rclfdn.org/donate
