Ethical AI: Serving Humanity or Falling Short?


UCSB Library is pleased to present Haewon Jeong (UCSB Electrical and Computer Engineering) in the Pacific Views: Library Speaker Series for Winter 2025. 


In her talk "Ethical AI: Serving Humanity or Falling Short?", Jeong will explore the ethical considerations surrounding the development and deployment of AI technologies, discussing how we can ensure that these systems are designed to benefit society while minimizing harm. Jeong's 45-minute presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

Through the Looking Glass

"Through the Looking Glass: A Microscopic Look at our Native Bees" showcases bee biodiversity through high-resolution images and pinned specimens of rare, local bees, many of which can be found on the UCSB campus.

Sara Miller McCune Arts Library

The opening of the Sara Miller McCune Arts Library culminated a multiyear effort to unite library collections and services in a central, state-of-the-art space. It also represents the vision of its namesake, a longstanding UCSB donor.


β€œLibraries are a place to learn, to explore, to read and they are often the doors to higher education,” Miller McCune said.

Phil Pister Collection

The cover story in the fall/winter issue of UC Santa Barbara Magazine examines the legacy of pioneering fishery biologist Phil Pister.


Pister donated his research materials to UCSB and the Library is digitizing his photographic slides, which number more than 24,000.
