Applications Open for the USHJA Foundation $25,000 Hamel Family Scholarship for Further Education and Gochman Grant for USEF Pony Finals
As the New Year kicks off so do the opportunities available to USHJA members. Applications are now open for the USHJA Foundation  $25,000 Hamel Family Scholarship for Further Education  and the  Gochman Grant , which helps riders attend USEF Pony Finals each year.
The Hamel Scholarship for Further Education is designed to encourage further education among equestrians. Through a generous donation from the Kristen and James Hamel Family Foundation, the USHJA Foundation awards up to $25,000 to be used for college, graduate, trade, or professional school to one USHJA member each year. Interested applicants must apply by May 15, 2020.
Each year, the USHJA Foundation offers three young pony riders the opportunity to attend and compete at USEF Pony Finals via the Gochman Grant . Pony Finals takes place August 3-9, 2020, in Lexington, Kentucky, and Gochman Grant applications must be received by March 13, 2020, to be considered.

Who? Travis Burns, Associate Professor of Practice in the department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech and Chief of Farrier Services in the Equine Podiatry Service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital

What? The webinar starts with basic hoof anatomy; defining “ideal hooves” and common issues Hunter/Jumper horses and ponies experience. Avoiding thrown shoes, topical ointments and dressings, various pads, and how to help keep your equine sound from the ground up year-round. The session will last 45-60 minutes and will include a Q&A portion.
