Payne County Youth Services (PCYS) provides a variety of free services to improve the quality of life for children, youth and families. Their programs include Emergency Youth Shelter, Transitional Living for youth age 18-22, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling, Safe Sitter Training, Suicide Prevention Training, and Safe Place.
The Safe Place Program provides immediate response and resources for children and youth in crisis. Easily accessible Safe Place sites (such as schools, fire stations, and convenience stores) have employees who are trained to respond.
When a child arrives at one of these locations, PCYS is contacted and transportation to the youth shelter is provided. There are more than 54 Safe Place sites in Payne County. With this program, children are empowered to refer themselves which increases the chance of their safety.
