DID YOU KNOW that a study from Free Radical Biology and Medicine found that regular consumption of beetroot juice or beetroot extract may help lower blood pressure in adults over 60 years of age. 

Beetroot is naturally rich in micronutrients and minerals, and its nitrate content plays a central role in this effect. 

Evidence has shown that poor oral health and microbial imbalances can reduce the body’s ability to convert dietary nitrate into nitric oxide, a compound essential for blood pressure regulation. These findings highlight the potential cardiovascular benefits of nitrate-rich foods, such as beetroot.

Steve: What your urine says about your kidney health.

• Urine look - if well hydrated it is clear; morning urine will be darker; light yellow is okay; bright yellow from B-vitamins is okay; gold or brownish means you need more hydration.
• Urine smell - some smell is normal, but if an odd scent than that could mean UTI.
• Urine other - cloudiness can mean a UTI; some foam is okay but if foam like a head of beer, that could mean excess protein in your urine; pink or red could indicate a bladder or kidney issue.

Speaking of bladder, a first-of-its-kind study from Continence found that mindfulness training and/or non-invasive brain stimulation could reduce bladder leaks and feelings of urgency.

Finally, a study on supplements for kidney stones, presented at NUTRITION 2025, purport that caffeine inhibited crystal formation, EGCG from green tea inhibited crystal formation and growth, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) inhibited crystal aggregation, and resveratrol inhibited crystal growth.

A 23 year-old female came to see Steve to help maintain colitis remission, help bring on her period which was dormant, aid in weight loss, and help with binge eating.

She had been able to stay away from medication for her colitis, but still dealt with flare-ups that caused her to have blood in her stool periodically. Her blood work showed excess acidity and low grade inflammation, among other things.

She did our PureInsight Genetics panel, so Steve went over the results to elucidate not only where some of her issues came from, but what could be done to help switch off any negatively expressing genes.

Steve helped her alkalize her diet, gave recommendations for how to repair her intestinal lining to the degree that it could be repaired, fixed areas of nutrient deprivation, as well as gave her binge eating and stress management techniques.

While she definitely had some days where she binged, for the vast majority she was on track. She cut down on saturated fat, red meats, and acidic foods, as well as took targeted healing supplements. In a little over a month, she noticed her clothes fitting better because she lost weight. She got her period back. Moreover, she had not seen blood in her stool.

Did you know that each foot has 26 bones, 33 joints and more than 100 ligaments? If there is too much pronation then over time this repetitive motion of walking can flatten the arches and create a chain reaction into the knees, hips, back and neck.
