This special Sunday is always an exciting Sunday in the life of our congregation. As we consecrate our financial commitments this coming Sunday to the work of our church, we will see a powerful display of the goodness of God and the generosity of our people. If you have not already turned in a financial pledge to support our congregation, I hope that you will place your pledge in the offering plate on Sunday so you can be a part of this special Sunday. Making a pledge to support our ministry budget helps us plan the coming year. We want to be good stewards of the resources that God gives us.
We do not want rising inflation to hamper our dreams. As a faithful, generous generation is passing to their heavenly reward, we need to step up and be part of what God is doing through our congregation. The people who have gone before us have been great builders who were not afraid to take risks and be bold for Jesus Christ. Now is our time. Now is our time to be bold.
Thank you in advance for your generous support. Together, let's continue to make an great impact on our community and beyond. "Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy, for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now" (Philippians 1:3-5, NLT).

This past Sunday was our Mission Expo, highlighting the many mission programs we partner with through resources and/or volunteer time. Some of these are featured in the brochure you should have received last week. Study this brochure and maybe find a new way you want to live out your impact on our mission here at Wesley Memorial.
Also, Church council met this past week. First, I was amazed at all of the great work our program teams have accomplished so far and planned for rest of the year. Second, I was overwhelmed as I realized how this work is bringing to life our mission as a church to make and sustain spiritually healthy followers of Jesus Christ.
Although you do not have to pledge to fulfill your financial commitment to God, it is through our pledges that the staff and program leaders can plan and commit to the great programming that we have always had here at Wesley Memorial and enable the robust support of these great mission partners. Without your pledge these program teams and mission partners will have to plan and execute only as the actual resources allow, limiting the impact of their programs. Please make your pledge and send the message to our program teams and mission partners that we support them and want them to have the resources they need to continue the great work fulfilling our mission as a congregation.
Our financial stewardship emphasis this season is based on the passage in 2nd Corinthians Chapter 8. That passage highlights worship through our giving. The Macedonians gave in the midst of untold uncertainty as a nation - in their own dire poverty and persecution. They gave abundantly and sacrificially because they loved Jesus Christ, because they wanted to support the church, and, most importantly, out of thanksgiving for what god had done in their lives.
My ask is that we model the behavior of the Macedonians as we always have, giving more than our church had hoped for from us because of our love for Jesus Christ, because of our support for the mission of Wesley Memorial, and out of thanksgiving for what God has done in our lives. Let’s show God we will do more than what is hoped for us.
Please turn in your Giving and Serving forms by next Sunday, Consecration Sunday, October 30. This is the day our commitment to our own spiritual renewal and our financial commitment to the mission of Wesley Memorial will be blessed, enabling these missions and honoring our faith in God.
In closing, thanks for all you do . . . for your church and God’s work though this great congregation.
Warren Lackey
Generosity Team Leader
