Westport-Wahkiakum Ferry Day
The Board proclaimed June 21 as Westport-Wahkiakum Ferry Day, marking a major milestone—100 years of continuous service by the Oscar B Ferry.
The Oscar B is the last remaining interstate vehicle ferry operating west of the Mississippi River. For a century, it has carried passengers and vehicles between Westport, Oregon and Wahkiakum County, Washington—connecting communities, supporting local economies, and offering breathtaking views of the Columbia River.
On this centennial Ferry Day, we honor a proud legacy of service and the bridge it continues to provide between two great states.

Clatsop County Public Works Schedule
Week of June 16, 2025
|
Crews will be:
- Mowing in Astoria District
- Applying herbicide in the Jewell District; weather permitting
- Replacing a culvert on Lillenas Road at MP 0.49
- Chip sealing on Lower Nehalem Road
Notice:
- Clatsop County will be chip sealing roads in several areas from June to September. Chip seal is a pavement preservation treatment composed of a thin layer of liquid asphalt applied to the existing road surface, followed immediately by a layer of crushed and compacted rock. After the chip seal has set for a few days, a final topcoat (fog seal) will be applied to seal the asphalt and rock mixture. This process is widely used to increase the durability and lifespan of rural roads.
- Expect up to 20-minute delays during chip seal.
- Drive slowly between chip seal and fog seal applications to avoid kicking up loose rock and damaging the road surface.
- The road surface will resemble a gravel road until after the application of fog seal; expect loose rock, especially along road shoulders.
Upcoming Closures:
Brownsmead Dike Road and Saspal Slough Bridge will reopen Monday, June 16th.
