Carnahan County Park:

Lake Days and Forest Trails


Just off Highway 101 between Warrenton and Gearhart, Carnahan County Park offers a serene 31-acre retreat along Cullaby Lake.


With 1,600 feet of shoreline, it’s a go-to for paddling, swimming, and fishing on the peaceful, motor-free north end of the lake. The gravel boat ramp and boarding float make it easy to launch your next lake adventure.


Don’t forget the 2/3-mile forest trail, shaded by towering spruce and hemlock. An ideal place for a summer stroll.

  • ½ mile east of Hwy 101 between Warrenton and Gearhart
  • 31 acres, 1,600 feet of Cullaby Lake shoreline
  • Access for swimming, paddling, angling (non-motorized)
  • Parking, picnic areas, gravel boat ramp, boarding float
  • Hiking trail through spruce and hemlock (Intermediate, ~⅔ mile)

Clatsop County Parks Annual Passes – Your Ticket to Summer Adventure!

 

Clatsop County charges a $5 day use fee at the following parks:

  • Carnahan County ParkFee charged May 1 through September 30, cash only at the Iron Ranger (a secure drop box with pay envelopes)
  • John DayFee charged year-round, card only pay station on site
  • Cullaby Lake County ParksFee charged year-round, pay station accepts cash or card

Purchase a $30 Annual Parks Pass for unlimited day use access at all three fee-based parks.

Goonies Weekend 2025: Celebrating 40 Years of Adventure in Astoria!

Astoria, Oregon, is gearing up for an unforgettable celebration as it marks the 40th anniversary of The Goonies, the beloved 1985 adventure film that put this coastal town on the cinematic map.


From June 5–8, 2025, fans from around the globe will converge on Astoria to honor the film's legacy with a weekend packed full of events, nostalgia, and community spirit.

June 2025 as Pride Month


At a recent meeting, the Clatsop County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation designating June 2025 as Pride Month.


This proclamation acknowledges the ongoing efforts to promote equality and acceptance for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Economic Opportunities Analysis Public Hearings

Clatsop County Planning staff are wrapping up work on the County’s Economic Opportunities AnalysisThe EOA is a 20-year economic development plan that looks at employment and wage trends for and identifies strategies to continue to develop and grow Clatsop County’s economy. 


Upcoming public hearing on the EOA:


  • Wednesday, June 11, 6 p.m. - Board of County Commissioners


All meetings are hybrid. In-person meetings will take place at the Judge Guy Boyington Building, 857 Commercial Street, Astoria. Zoom links and meeting instructions can be found on the County’s calendar.

Clatsop County invites you to roll up your sleeves and help clean up the beach near the Wreck of the Peter Iredale on Thursday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.


Meet at Fort Stevens in the South Parking Lot at the Wreck of the Peter Iredale

  • Water and light snacks provided
  • All cleanup supplies available on site


Let’s leave the beach better than we found it. 

Community Health Needs Assessment


Clatsop County Public Health, Columbia Memorial Hospital, and Providence Seaside Hospital are working together to identify our community’s most pressing health needs.


You can help by completing a short Community Health Needs Assessment survey by June 30. Your input will guide future health priorities—and you’ll have a chance to win a $100 Amazon gift card!

2025 CSI Forensic Science Day Camp Registration Opens


Register now for the 2025 CSI Forensic Science Day Camp. Camp is held July 7-11, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds 92937 Walluski Loop, Astoria. Open to Ages 15-17.

Passports:


We are taking appointments for passport processing


An appointment is REQUIRED prior to coming in for new passport processing. Routine service can take 4-6 weeks; Expedite service can take 2-3 weeks. (This does not include mailing times.)


Forms are available at the official site: www.travel.state.gov. You will not be required to pay for forms. NOTE: if you are asked to pay for the forms, you are not on the official site.


Please go to our webpage and schedule an appointment for passports, park passes, marriage licenses, dog licenses, and recordings with us. If you do not have an appointment, you may be asked to wait if we are with someone that has scheduled an appointment.

Clatsop County Public Works Schedule

Week of June 2, 2025

Crews will be:


  • Mowing in Astoria District
  • Applying herbicide in Astoria District; weather permitting
  • Mowing on Hamlet Road
  • Chopping roadside brush on Taylorville Road


Upcoming Closures: 


Oscar B Ferry, Westport, Oregon, Temporary Closure – The Oscar B Ferry will be out of service starting Monday, April 7 for its mandatory 5-year maintenance and inspection while it is in dry dock. The Oscar B Ferry will continue to be down for maintenance until further notice. Call the ferry information line at 360-795-7867 for updates.


Brownsmead Dike Road Closed at Saspal Slough Bridge – Beginning April 14 Brownsmead Dike Road will be closed to all through traffic at the Saspal Slough Bridge (between Aldrich Point Road & Barendse Road) for a bridge repair project. Utilize Ziak-Gnat Creek Road, Barendse Road, and Aldrich Point Road as an alternative route. Brownsmead Dike Road will be closed at the bridge for approximately 10 weeks.

Temporary Seaside Bridge Closure


The bridge connecting Avenue A with Avenue B in Seaside will be closed to all traffic Monday, June 2 from Noon to 3 p.m.


The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will be conducting a bridge inspection during this time.

Detours:

  1. North/South Traffic: Use S. Holladay Drive or S. Franklin Street
  2. Westbound Traffic: Use Broadway or Avenue G
  3. Eastbound Traffic: Use Avenue G or 1st Avenue


Thank you for your patience during this temporary closure. Please plan accordingly and follow posted signs.

Pipeline Road Closure


Pipeline Road Closure - Pipeline Road will be closed beginning Feb. 1 to all vehicular traffic from the Astoria gate on James Street to Svensen Market Road in Svensen due to waterline construction.


This closure will remain in effect through the end of July 2025. Pedestrian and bicycle access will still be allowed on Pipeline Road during this time.
