On November 6, 2018, Michigan voters passed Proposal 1, known as the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act ("the Act"), decriminalizing the possession and use of marihuana by adults aged 21 years or older.  While much of the Act addresses the use, cultivation and amounts of marihuana that can be legally possessed, the Act also expressly addresses the rights of employers to ban the use of marihuana in the workplace.

MEMBER NEWS
STERLING HEIGHTS POLICE OFFICERS LOOKING TO HELP LOCAL FAMILY IN NEED
On Feb. 16, Sterling Heights Police and Fire Departments were sent to a home where a man was in cardiac arrest. First responders performed CPR and were able to get his pulse back twice, but unfortunately he did not survive. He left behind a wife and two young children who are now in dire financial need. Officers are now reaching out to local businesses and individuals that would be willing to donate anything to the family: monetary help, gift cards for gas, food, clothing, etc. Sterling Heights police officers believe it is their duty to go the extra mile to help families in our community, especially in times of serious need, and they would greatly appreciate any and all help our Chamber members can provide. If anyone would like to donate money for the family, please make checks payable to Michelle Hentkowski and have them sent to Lt. Mario Bastianelli, SHPD, 40333 Dodge Park, Sterling Heights, MI 48314. Lt. Bastianelli will see that checks are delivered to the family. They are also looking to deliver any non-monetary gifts to the family by March 6, but if someone would like to donate after that, they will make sure the family receives all donations.
