Seeds to Grow

The trouble with jogging is that by the time you realize you're not in shape for it, it's too far to walk back.

Chamber in Pictures
At first glance, it looks like a marriage proposal. But Dr. Chris, Gresham Animal Hospital, and Katie Holzmann, Birch Community services, Inc., are networking. Chamber works!
Leadership Academy Graduation
Congratulations to this year's class. They made the commitment for personal and professional growth, met dozens of new people, and gained a new perspective on community. Job well done!
Chamber is relationships. Networking. Not competition but collaboration. Brenda Felix, Riverview Community Bank, and Robyne Dodge-Little, Columbia Bank, are “prime” examples of same industry building relationships.
There are only a handful of major business issues left in the 2019 session. All of the remaining business issues are still shrouded in some doubt and uncertainty in the final days.

  • Cap-and-Trade (HB 2020) - Business groups (including OSCC) are supporting amendments that will allow a cap-and-trade system to move forward but will mitigate the extreme cost impacts and allow Oregon companies to remain competitive. These are known as the -117 amendments. Business will not get consideration of its -117 amendments until we demonstrate we can defeat the current cap-and-trade bill on the Senate floor.

  • Gross Receipts Tax: Implementation Bill (HB 2164). This is a bill to watch, because it could produce significant tweaks to the just-passed Commercial Activity Tax. Several proposed amendments to the bill have already produced eye-popping changes like exemptions for major corporate investments and lowering the threshold, currently at $1 million, for applying the tax.

Greece is the birthplace of the Ancient Olympic Games, with the first iteration of the festival dating back to 776 BC. Did you know that Greece has hosted the Modern Olympics Games just twice? The first Modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896. The Olympics returned to Athens again in 2004.
Natural Health Tips

Are you drinking enough water? Optimal water intake is about ½ of your body weight in ounces of water daily (150lb = 75oz water), and even more if your drinking caffeine and exercising!
Drinking water is one of the first things you can do for yourself to feel better because every cell in your body needs water to function properly!
Can new lighting really pay off for a small business? Just ask Kyle Anderson, manager and co-owner of iParts & Phone Repair in Gresham. He won an energy-efficiency consultation with PGE in 2017. “It’s definitely a good move,” said Anderson, who significantly reduced his lighting costs.

Not every vacation calls for luxury. When you’re looking for something more exciting, consider a stay at a working guest ranch. There’s a whole lot more to the experience than bragging rights.
