Your Librarians...From Home!
We can't wait to be book talking and reading aloud in person, but for now: video is the next best thing.

Don't know what to read next? Kevin has a suggestion: The Westing Game , a classic and one of his all time favorites. Puzzles, secrets, and a mystery to be solved? We're in.

Happy Birthday, Beverly Cleary!
The legendary Beverly Cleary, famous for the beloved Ramona Quimby books, celebrated her 104th birthday on April 12 ! Did you know...?

  • Cleary was a librarian! She received a degree in library science from the University of Washington in 1939, and worked as a children's librarian.
  • Ramona was only intended to be in one brief scene in Henry Huggins; she was added to the story because Cleary realized none of the book's characters had siblings.
  • Cleary coordinated writing Henry Huggins with baking bread: taking a break when the dough needed to be punched down and finishing for the day when it was ready to eat.
  • The Library of Congress named Cleary a living legend in 2000.
  • She decided to write Dear Mr. Henshaw after reading letters from two different boys who asked her to write about a boy whose parents were divorced.
