Member of Knesset Sharren Haskel is one of the youngest members of the 20th
Knesset.
Described as a "firebrand," MK Haskel is a strong, passionate, and accomplished leader. Born in Canada to an Israeli father and Moroccan mother, she moved to Israel as a young child. She is a humanitarian and a veterinary nurse by trade. MK Haskel served as a First Sergeant class commander in the Border Guard during the second intifada. In her current capacity, she serves on the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, the Internal Affairs and Environment Committee and the Special Committee on Drug and Alcohol Abuse. She also chairs the Lobby for Medical Cannabis.

Back in November our Administrator, Renee Joffe, decided to try a fundraiser through Facebook for her birthday. Renee filled out all the necessary forms needed for Congregation Kehillah to be eligible to receive donations. The organization "Network For Good" does not take a percentage of donations. All donations made go directly to the synagogue. We just received a check for $373 (eight of Renee's friends donated various amounts), which will go into the General Fund and be put towards security. Thank you, Renee, for thinking of us!

Did you know . . .
that it is customary to donate at the time of Yizkor or when Kaddish is recited in memory of a loved one? It is also customary to make a donation when given an aliyah (honor) during a service.
Jewish Philanthropy: The Concept of Tzedakah is a much-admired practice throughout the world. "In Jewish tradition, tzedakah requires the donor share his or her compassion and empathy along with the money. Judaism teaches the belief that donors benefit from tzedakah as much [as] or more than the recipients."
