"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Letter from Birmingham Jail
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Annual March & Festival
Monday, January 21, 2019
9:00 a.m. kick-off, 8:30 a.m. meeting time
Walk with Rabbi Sharfman and your fellow congregants!
Arizona citizens of all ages and nationalities, from a variety of Valley organizations, take part in this walk, which is symbolic of the 1968 March on Washington, at which Dr. King gave his "I Have a Dream" speech.
We will walk as a congregation together with other Jewish groups under the aegis of the Jewish Community Relations Council.
This "march" is a comfortable two-mile walk at an easy pace, suitable for all ages and for baby strollers, too.
Our meeting location is Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, downtown (Jefferson and 14th St.), at 8:30 a.m.
The walk ends at approximately 10:00 a.m. at Margaret T. Hance Park, where the Festival runs until 4:00 p.m.
Free shuttles at the park will take you back to the church parking lot.
Families are especially encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to "pray with their feet."

WISE AGING WORKSHOP SERIES
|

How Wisely Are You Aging?
Wise Aging Workshop Series begins in January
Have you ever wondered how ready you are to face the challenges and opportunities of the aging process? And whether you have the resources to improve the journey along the way? We have the answer for you in a new workshop series, Wise Aging.
Inspired by the Institute for Jewish Spirituality and based on the book
Wise Aging, by Rabbi Rachel Cowen and Dr. Linda Thal, the course centers on a series of discussions and opportunities for meaningful conversations to help you explore how to age wisely through the lens of Jewish wisdom.
Topics include
- becoming one's authentic self
- a life review
- revitalizing and nourishing healthy relationships
- cultivating qualities of soul
- practicing forgiveness
- learning to live with loss, change, and death
- creating relevant rituals
- cultivating wisdom
- leaving a legacy
Wise Aging will provide you with the tools and resources to explore positive ways to navigate this chapter of life and find meaning and joy in the process.
Facilitated by Ellin Chariton, Wise Aging will span six sessions beginning Wednesday, January 23, 2019. Sessions will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. at Congregation Kehillah. Participation fee is $36/person, and each participant will need to purchase a copy of
Wise Aging, available at Amazon and elsewhere.
Contact Ellin Chariton at [email protected] with questions and/or to register for the Wise Aging Workshop Series by Monday, January 14, 2019. Space is limited so don't delay!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS
|
Rabbi's Discretionary Fund
Vicki Mardell and Mort Berkowitz, in honor of Erica and Jared's wedding
|
Did you know . . .
that it is customary to donate at the time of Yizkor or when Kaddish is recited in memory of a loved one? It is also customary to make a donation when given an aliyah (honor) during a service.
Jewish Philanthropy: The Concept of Tzedakah is a much-admired practice throughout the world. "In Jewish tradition, tzedakah requires the donor share his or her compassion and empathy along with the money. Judaism teaches the belief that donors benefit from tzedakah as much [as] or more than the recipients."
You can find out more about the roots and practices of Jewish philanthropy at Learning to Give.

Your donations in any amount are genuinely appreciated.
Please help support Congregation Kehillah by donating to Kehillah's various funds
-- to celebrate, honor, remember, give thanks, to assist, or simply to do tzedakah.
You can donate through our website in any amount or send a check. Congregation Kehlllah is a 501(c)(3) organization; donations are tax-exempt to the fullest extent allowable by law. (Please consult with your tax adviser.)
