MEMBERSHIP REMINDER

Thank you to those who have renewed their memberships!
Our new fiscal year began on July 1, 2020. Dues renewal emails were sent a few weeks ago.

If you have not renewed your membership yet, please do so today. Thank you! Please  contact Renee if you have any questions. We are grateful for your participation in Kehillah and look forward to sharing a new year of learning, growth, social justice, and life cycle events with you!

Send us your smiling faces!!!

Rabbi is busy planning some wonderful things for our High Holy Days experience this year. As Gil mentioned in his message last week, we will be streaming services "live" with the choir professionally pre-recorded and we are working on some other ideas as well.

Right now we are looking for pictures of you and/or your family members lighting Shabbat/Yom Tov candles as well as photos of our beautiful, smiling congregants. We hope to incorporate these into our service.

Please email your JPGs to Renee by Wednesday, August 5th...by doing so, you are also giving Congregation Kehillah permission to use your photos for our High Holy Day services.

We look forward to receiving many pictures as we miss seeing all of you!

FOR YOUR INFORMATION
Yizkor YIZKOR BOOK

For the past few months we have all heard Rabbi say that she has 6.5 different scenarios in her head for how the High Holy Days will look this year. In an effort to stay ahead of ourselves, we are starting the Yizkor Book much earlier this year in hopes that we can get this into people's hands and homes (more on this later) prior to the High Holy Days beginning.

The Kehillah Yizkor Book, published every Yom Kippur, is a means to remember departed loved ones.  A donation of $18 per name is requested. Yizkor Book listings are open to non-members as well as members. We will be pleased to include the names of your loved ones. This book will be used for all Yizkor services throughout the year.

Please take a moment to fill out the form that was emailed to you, or access it here and either mail it back to us with your payment or scan and email the form to Ellen Lerman  and make your payment online,  here  .

Erica & Jared Erman - for YEP!

Did you know . . .
that it is customary to donate at the time of Yizkor or when Kaddish is recited in memory of a loved one? It is also customary to make a donation when given an aliyah (honor) during a service.

Jewish Philanthropy: The Concept of Tzedakah is a much-admired practice throughout the world. "In Jewish tradition, tzedakah requires the donor share his or her compassion and empathy along with the money. Judaism teaches the belief that donors benefit from tzedakah as much [as] or more than the recipients."

You can find out more about the roots and practices of Jewish philanthropy at Learning to Give.
Your donations in any amount are genuinely appreciated.
Please help support Congregation Kehillah by donating to Kehillah's various funds
-- to celebrate, honor, remember, give thanks, to assist, or simply to do tzedakah.
You can donate through our website in any amount or send a check. Congregation Kehlllah is a 501(c)(3) organization; donations are tax-exempt to the fullest extent allowable by law. (Please consult with your tax adviser.)

Please consider planting a tree in Israel for any occasion. Contact Renee and she will place the order on your behalf. Trees cost $18 per tree and a portion of all sales benefit Congregation Kehillah.

Here are other great ways to support Kehillah

Normally, we'd invite you to celebrate with an Oneg.
Sponsoring an Oneg is a great way to celebrate your lifecycle events and other wonderful news with your Kehillah family. For 2020, we are aiming to have every Oneg sponsored. To reserve your Oneg, please email Renee or call her at 602-369-7667.
But while we're currently not gathering, and you are (we hope!) spending most of your time at home during the next few weeks, remember to use Amazon Smile when you buy on Amazon.

We've raised $38.50 in donations through the Amazon Smile program between January 1 and March 31, 2020.

You can sign up for Amazon Smile and choose Congregation Kehillah as your charity. It's simple, costs nothing, and Amazon will donate a portion of your purchase price to Kehillah.

Here's how to sign up:

Visit  smile.amazon.com and select Congregation Kehillah
. That's it! After you're signed up, shop on Amazon by visiting smile.amazon.com (your Prime account goes with you) and continue as usual. The website  will remember you selected Congregation Kehillah, and every eligible purchase you make at  smile.amazon.com  will result in a donation.

ANOTHER WAY TO USE AMAZON SMILE!

Good news! AmazonSmile is now available in the Amazon Shopping app on iOS and Android mobile phones.

AmazonSmile customers can now support Congregation Kehillah in the Amazon shopping app on iOS and Android mobile phones! Simply follow these instructions to turn on AmazonSmile and start generating donations.
  1. Open the Amazon Shopping app on your device
  2. Go into the main menu of the Amazon Shopping app and tap into 'Settings'
  3. Tap 'AmazonSmile' and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

For more information on this organization, please click here .  Refugee Aid is requesting donations (monetary & in-kind) as well as assistance with volunteering.   Some volunteer work does not include face to face contact. There  is something for everyone!!    Please click on this pdf to see what is needed.  Feel free to pass this information to friends and family.  Your networks are powerful!  It is also possible to sign up for weekly emails as some volunteering changes weekly.

SOJOURNER NEEDS...
The Center, which helps women escape abuse and domestic violence, is in desperate need of women's underwear, sizes 6, 7, and 8.  If you are able,  you can order these online at Amazon, and Sojourner and Kehillah will benefit. They can be sent to Sojourner Resource Center, 2330 E. Filmore Street, Phoenix, AZ 85006.

Please add the following items that are desperately needed: bath and hand towels, either new or gently used. Sojourner thanks us for the masks Ellen Lerman has made and were donated.

Remember "Mom" and the other women!

Reminder: There are hungry neighbors and families experiencing food insecurity throughout the Valley, throughout the year -- even if we can't always see it. And there are women who can't afford basic feminine products. Our food collection bin for   Mom's Pantry is always in our lobby, and our Kehillah Cares bag for women4women tempe is in our ladies' room.

Please bring food
and toiletry donations whenever we are able to come back to Kehillah.

None of that is possible at the moment, but Mom's Pantry accepts donations on  Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are located at 13440 N. Cave Creek Road in Phoenix. Call 602-992-0083 for other times.
