TISHA B'AV
TishaBAvTisha B'Av: A question for you

Tisha B'Av, the Fast of the Ninth of Av, is a day of mourning to commemorate the many tragedies that have befallen the Jewish People -- most notably the destruction of the first and second Temples.

On Tisha B'Av, it is Jewish practice to fast and read the Book of Eicha/
Lamentations, found in the last part of the Tanakh.

Are you interested in meeting at Kehillah on Sunday morning, July 22, to learn about Tisha B'Av and the Book of Lamentations with Rabbi Sharfman? Please click on one of the choices below. Additional comments are welcome, but not necessary.
Thank you!

SELICHOT
SelichotSelichot: A question for you
Please click on a response if we haven't heard from you yet!

Will you be here over Labor Day weekend?
Will you participate in Selichot?

Selichot is a spiritual practice (not a holiday) that helps us prepare intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually for the High Holy Days.

It is when we first hear phrases from our most moving and powerful High Holy Days prayers; when we first hear parts of some beloved High Holy Days melodies; when we "dress up" our Torah, changing the cover from its everyday garb to holiday white.

Selichot is, in short, a beautiful and inspiring evening for those who attend.

It is also typically held on the Saturday evening that is one full week prior to Rosh Hashanah. This year, Selichot falls in the middle of Labor Day weekend. This year's program would be:

SELICHOT
Saturday evening, September 1
Starting with Havdalah at 6:30 p.m.
Light refreshments

Please let us know if you would attend, by clicking on one of the choices below. Additional comments are welcome, but not necessary. Thank you!

FAMILIES, JOIN US IN ISRAEL IN 2019!
Come to Israel with us in 2019!

Is visiting Israel with your family on your wish list?
Well, now is the time to make it happen!

Rabbi Sharfman is busy planning a wonderful family trip to Israel end of May/early June 2019 (with non-stops to and from LAX on El Al). Imagine early summer in Israel and you can do Bar/Bat Mitzvahs on Massada while we are there!

Kids and adults will have a great time discovering the beauty, culture, history, and modernity that is unique to Israel. Fellow travelers of all ages find Rabbi Sharfman's joy delightfully contagious; and her ability to relate and share her knowledge is unmatched. Rabbi lived in Israel for many years and was a licensed tour guide there!

We can't wait to share this experience with your family, so let us hear from you! Email Renee to let her know you'd like to receive Israel trip updates.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL TIME
A note from Renee Joffe, Kehillah Administrator:

Many thanks to all our congregants for another wonderful year at Congregation Kehillah. We hope you had a great experience and we look forward to spending another year with you. During the summer our team will be meeting and planning for the year.

You should have received Kehillah membership renewal email, which included a letter from Kehillah President Rich Goldman. You can also read Rich's letter here.

Please take a moment before you enjoy your summer break to take care of your membership renewal. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

L'Shalom,
Renee
WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Why not help make our summer Connections more interesting by sharing what you're up to and sending your photos (include names and pertinent details) for us to publish? We'd love to hear from you! Send your news and updates to Renee.
OUR KEHILLAH FAMILY
Our new Memorial Board

Now is the perfect time to order your engraved plaques to honor your loved ones who have passed away. For a donation of $360, individual names, with dates of birth and death, will be engraved on a plaque and added to our board. This fee includes a listing in our annually published   Yizkor  Book distributed on Yom Kippur and at yizkor services on our festivals. Click here for the Memorial Board form . Did you know . . .
that it is customary to donate at the time of Yizkor or when Kaddish is recited in memory of a loved one? It is also customary to make a donation when given an aliyah (honor) during a service.

Jewish Philanthropy: The Concept of Tzedakah is a much-admired practice throughout the world. "In Jewish tradition, tzedakah requires the donor share his or her compassion and empathy along with the money. Judaism teaches the belief that donors benefit from tzedakah as much or more than the recipients."

You can find out more about the roots and practices of Jewish philanthropy at Learning to Give.
Your donations in any amount are genuinely appreciated.
Please help support Congregation Kehillah by donating to Kehillah's various funds
-- to celebrate, honor, remember, give thanks, to assist, or simply to do tzedakah.
You can donate through our website in any amount or send a check. Congregation Kehlllah is a 501(c)(3) organization; donations are tax-exempt to the fullest extent allowable by law. (Please consult with your tax adviser.)
