Farewell Celebration for Yang-Hee Song
On Monday, August 6 th the Staff Parish Relations Committee shared that our organist, Yang-Hee Song, has resigned after 18 years of dedicated ministry. She will be pursuing a career opportunity at the Princeton United Methodist Church which is closer to where she lives. To read SPRC's announcement in its entirety, please click here.

Her last day at Chatham UMC will be on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Please come to the 10:00 AM Worship service in the Sanctuary where we will celebrate her exquisite musicianship and ministry. Join us in Rodda Hall after worship to continue the celebration and our appreciation of Yang-Hee.

If you would like to write letters or cards of appreciation, they can be sent to the church office. If you would like to send a monetary gift, please make checks payable to CUMC and earmarked: Yang-Hee's Gift.
Rally Day 2018: New Date!!!
Rally Day 2018 is now scheduled for Sunday, September 16 th. Join us for worship at 10:00 AM in the Sanctuary. Immediately following worship, enjoy a church family lunch followed by an afternoon of giving our CUMC building and grounds a little "TLC spruce up." Look for more information about our Rally Day "Fellowship and Fix Up" in the coming weeks!
Family Promise Important Dates
In 2019 we will host our Family Promise guests as follows: January 20 through January 27; May 26 through June 2; December 8 through December 15. Look for us at the Alternative Gift Fair next December for a chance to purchase a special gift to help families experiencing homelessness.

Music News
This Sunday, August 19 th , all are invited to sing with choir members for our second Summer choir opportunity and learn an easy anthem. We will rehearse at 9:15 a.m. in the Music Room . No robes required; just comfortable clothes and your zest for singing!

On Sunday, August 26 th , a guest quartet of singers from the Masterwork Chorus will sing several special pieces including With A Voice of Singing by Martin Shaw. Please join us for both of these special Sundays!

All of our music groups will begin again this Fall following our Summer hiatus; rehearsals will begin again after Labor Day weekend. Our music program welcomes all newcomers to the the Covenant Choir, the Wesley Ringers, the Kenanaiah Praise Band, the Youth Singers, the Youth Ringers, the Kids’ Bells, the Brass & Wind Ensemble, and the Ukulele Orchestra! Thank you to all that donated school supplies and backpacks for CUMAC. Your generosity and kindness is greatly appreciated. Also, thank you to Barbara Bennett and Ruth Moloney for faithfully organizing the Supply Drive and delivering the items to CUMAC in Paterson this week. We are grateful for your time and energy.
2018 Trustees Summer Project Update
The trustees have been working diligently to maintain and upgrade CUMC and would like to share with you what has been/will be going on at the church.

  • Nursery school space expansion: DOOR INSTALLATION: Scheduled for August 21st.
  • Parking lot paving Update: Completed
DO YOU KNOW ANYONE? We are looking into having the hinges on the Sanctuary Doors replaced. If you have ideas for contractors who would do this please let us know! Also, if you have or know of someone who has a piano they would like to donate or give to the church for a small fee please let Peter Hill know (specific features are necessary).

First Friends of New Jersey and New York are collecting writing materials for detainees, asylum seekers, and refugees who are being held in detention centers in NJ so that they may be able to keep in touch with family members. Chatham UMC is supporting this effort as we are currently collecting the following: 
Supplies can be dropped off at the Chatham UMC, at information ledge, 1st floor; please look for the collection box. We are located at 460 Main Street, Chatham NJ 07928. (Across from the CVS)
First Friends of NJ and NY Mission:
First Friends of NJ and NY upholds the inherent dignity and humanity of detained immigrants and asylum seekers. We provide compassion and hope through volunteer visitation, resettlement assistance and advocacy.

Bags to Benches Update
Please continue to recycle your plastic bags and plastic film! 
The next collection site will be Gloria Dei Lutheran Church located at 300 Shunpike Road, Chatham Township, beginning in September 2018.  We will update as we get more information from Gloria Dei.
