This Sunday's Message at 9:30am
In The Game To Win!
"The Agony of Defeat"
Acts 16:22-26
A universal understanding is shared by the Wide World of Sports phrase: “The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat.” We learn about the agony of defeat with our sports teams, and we experience it with our lives. Experiencing defeat is something we know in life. What do we do when we get knocked down? How do we move past the agony of defeat?

Everyone is invited to wear their favorite team apparel to the service!

Virtual Worship
If you are participating online, we offer a livestream service at 9:30 am on YouTube.
Please let us know you are in service virtually (and in person too!) with "mobile check in" via the Realm App! (Tap "more" first in the lower right corner.)
Email the church office if you have any questions about Realm.

We also have our Sunday morning worship service playing live on the TV right outside our entryway for those who feel more comfortable being outdoors (weather permitting). Feel free to grab a cup of coffee, bring your lawn chairs, and still gather together at The River!
Trunk or Treat Event!!!
Halloween is only two weeks from Sunday! We'll celebrate with a Trunk or Treat event in our parking lot after church at 10:45 am. All are welcome to this community-wide event whether or not you decorate a vehicle. Kids are encouraged to dress up in costumes (appropriate please) and collect candy & treats! Don't forget to invite friends!
If you are interested in decorating a vehicle, please contact Emma Keller for more details.

Sugar River is going out on the town! Visit Sugar River's table at the Main Street Trick or Treat event in Verona on Friday, Oct. 29 from 3:30-5:00! Interested in representing SR by helping give out candy at this event? Also contact Emma!

9th Grade Confirmation Service on Saturday
Please consider supporting the 9th grade confirmation class by praying for them this week and attending the 9th grade confirmation service THIS Saturday, Oct. 16th at 9 AM. This service is in place to support the confirmation class that was hindered by the pandemic. This class attended confirmation in 2019 and until this week has not had a chance to publicly confirm their faith.

So, the service will provide a celebration for the class and their families to confirm their faith. The 9th grade class will also be given the opportunity to help with worship and be recognized this Sunday, Oct. 17th at the 9:30 AM worship service.

Please be praying for the faith and wellness of our 9th grade confirmation class: Allison Bostley, Mia under Mause, Braden Sass, and Preston Yaucher.

October Monthly Mission: Thanksgiving and Christmas Meal Bags

The BPNN Food Pantry provides a Thanksgiving and/or Christmas Meal bag for any local family during their time of need this holiday season. We are delighted to once again feature the BPNN's Thanksgiving and Christmas meal bags as a monthly mission this October! Similar to last year, things might look a bit different this year....

This year, the pantry is asking that we help fund the purchase of pies for the Thanksgiving baskets and fruit for the Christmas baskets. The anticipated cost is $6.50 for each pie and $20 for the fruit for each basket.

They are also asking for the following items:

  • Large aluminum roasting pans (to distribute with the turkeys),
  • Sugar
  • Flour
  • Cooking oil

The BPNN anticipates distributing 400 Thanksgiving and 400 Christmas baskets this year! How many families can we help enjoy a meal during this blessed time of year?

We will be collecting the Thanksgiving items on the SERVE table throughout October! Interested in donating financially? Click here to give online (click the Give tab and select the Missions-food pantry line item) or send a check to SRUMC with food pantry in the memo!

Thank you for sharing love and joy this holiday season!
SERVE Celebration: Verona Warm Winters

Thank you so much for you generous donations, the SERVE table is full, WONDERFUL! While Verona Warm Winters Project was our September Monthly Mission, we are going to continue to collect items throughout the month given the continued community need.

We are asking for the following gently used and clean donations:

Winter Jackets - (child - adult sizes)
Snow pants - (child - adult sizes)
Winter boots - (child - adult sizes)
Waterproof winter mittens/gloves - (child - adult sizes)

Please bring all items washed and ready for distribution. You can set them on the SERVE table! We thank you for your generous hearts as we work to ensure all children in the VASD stay warm this winter!
SERVE Celebration: Red Cross Blood Drive, 9/28!

Here is a letter from the Red Cross regarding our most recent Blood Drive:

"Thank you so much for partnering with the American Red Cross. We are truly grateful for your commitment of time and support. The work you do makes a difference to so many in need.
The blood drive you held resulted in 45 pints of blood from 43 people, 29 whole blood and 16 power reds. Your efforts have helped boost the community blood supply and ensure hospital patients have the lifesaving blood they depend on.
The Red Cross depends on the important work that volunteers like you do. Your support does not go unnoticed and we hope to build on this partnership with you."

Thank you to everyone who played a role in making this life-saving ministry happen, once again, at Sugar River!
SERVE Celebration: Afghan Refugee Support
