West Shore Jr/Sr Cheer is Heading to Nationals! | |
In their first year of existence, West Shore’s competitive cheer teams have earned two bids to compete at the National High School cheerleading championships held at Walt Disney World.
The teams, consisting of 15 athletes, competed in the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) Central Florida Regional Competition in Tampa, where they performed two routines. One routine earned 4th place, and both routines earned bids to the national competition to be held this weekend, February 10th - 12th.
Help us wish them luck as they compete on the world stage! Way to go, West Shore!

Secondary Open Enrollment | |
Now accepting NEW and RENEWAL Open Enrollment applications for Secondary schools, grades 7-12, for the 2023-2024 school year.
The deadline to apply is February 24.
This Open Enrollment application is for students entering 7th–12th grade who want to go to another school for a Location change (ELO) and/or a Program offering (EPO).

Palm Bay Magnet High Air Rifle Team Places at National Championship | |
Congratulations to the Palm Bay Magnet High School MCJROTC Air Rifle Team for making it to the MCJROTC National Championships. The all-female team placed 8th in the Nation, with two individual shooters qualifying to compete at the JROTC All Service National Championships to be held March 23-25, 2023.
This year’s National Championship Team Members included Kayla Gowen – 12th Grade; Jamey Fischer – 12th Grade; Ashleigh Antaloci – 12th Grade; Taylor Carlson – 10th Grade; and Cheyenne Washburn – 11th Grade. Kayla Gowen and Jamey Fischer both qualified for the 2023 All Service National Championships.
The PBMHS Air Rifle Team has won nine Brevard County Air Rifle Championships in the last 10 years and placed 2nd in the 2022 MCJROTC National Championship.

Satellite High Students Win Top Tech Challenge

On Saturday, February 4, 2023, Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Orlando held its annual Top Tech Challenge Student Auto Skills Competition. This event is open to high schools throughout the state of Florida that have automotive programs.
Jason White, 11th grade, and Bryson Welker, 12th grade, from Satellite High School took top honors at the Challenge. The pair beat out 28 student teams during the three-hour competition.
The 1st place winners each secured a $10,000 scholarship to UTI. They also won a $5,000 custom toolbox for the school’s lab and a $2,000 voucher for Snap-on tools for future automotive students at Satellite High School's Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair program.
Both winners strive for careers in the automotive industry. After graduation, White will enroll in the NASCAR program at UTI and has set his sights on being a crew chief for NASCAR, and Welker is enrolled at UTI Orlando, interested in automotive and welding.

Brevard Public Schools has one of the broadest and most challenging Career & Technical Education programs in the country. This point of pride for BPS was honored by the School Board during their meeting Tuesday night. The board members approved a proclamation making February 2023 CTE Month for Brevard Public Schools. The Board also honored student-athletes from three high schools. The Space Coast Vipers Girls Bowling Team won the 2022 FHSAA Girls Bowling Championship and were recognized during Tuesday’s meeting. Also honored was Emma Risch, Palm Bay Magnet High basketball player who was named to the McDonald's All-American Team. She was joined at the meeting by her teammates and coaches. Cocoa High’s Football Team was present at the meeting as well and was recognized for their 2-S State Championship.
Board members also began the budget process for next school year with a presentation by the district’s Chief Financial Officer Cynthia Lesinski, who showcased what the public can expect as the Board works to finalize a budget in the coming months. The next Board Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21st at 5:30 pm with a Board Work Session scheduled for 1:00 pm.
