A Summary of Vestry actions taken on April, 2019
Treasurer’s report
The Treasurer’s report was sent to the Vestry by email before the meeting. There were no questions about the report so a motion was made, seconded and approved unanimously to approve the Treasurer’s report.
Parochial report
–
Frank Robinson
As the previous Treasurer, Frank Robinson presented the Parochial report for the year 2018 which had been sent to the Vestry before the meeting. A motion was made, seconded and approved unanimously to approve the report and to allow minor changes, if necessary, before it is submitted
Financial review of 2018
– Frank Robinson
A motion was made, seconded and approved unanimously to engage Burke & Lamb to conduct a review of the financial operations and results for 2018 at a cost not to exceed $4,000.
Buildings and Grounds report
– Robert Inglis, David Dick and Luke Thornewill
A report on the current work on the tower was presented by Luke Thornewill. Work was begun on the west wall by the crew from Florentine Renaissance Masonry on April 1
st
and is expected to conclude by mid May. The west gable wall has the same issues as the tower, deteriorating bedding and pointing mortar, but to a lesser degree because the exposure to severe weather has been less than the tower. A significant crack between the tower and the gable face was discovered and has been filled. Several loose stones are being held in place by wooden wedges until the bedding mortar can be replaced. The tower inner core is still very wet and could take as long as ten years to dry out, but the repairs made last year are effective. A preliminary survey of the other walls of the church showed that the east and north walls will also need work to replace the deteriorating mortar, but the south wall is in reasonably good shape. There was a discussion about how to pay for the repairs to the remaining walls, which will be addressed in 2020 and 2021 if the funds can be made available. It was also decided to get a second bid for the painting work on the Rectory. David Dick reported on his work to find the best acoustical material for the ceiling in Gardner hall. One company, Acoustical Services Inc., has a good product but the shipping cost is quite high. David will continue to investigate other suppliers.
Priest-in-Charge Comments
– Max Wolf
Max reviewed the many services and activities coming up in Holy week. These include the contemplative Eucharist and supper, the Maundy Thursday supper and service, the Good Friday service, the Easter vigil and the Easter service.
Fellowship committee report
-
Libby Tracey
Libby Talked about the plans for the dinner on Maundy Thursday and the luncheon the committee is planning at Sherburne Commons on May 15
th
. Church members also will be invited to the luncheon.
Warden’s reports
– Lou Genaro
Lou reviewed the Diocesan process when a Priest-in-Charge comes to a parish. The first phase is devoted to the priest getting to know the parish and vice versa. The second phase is for planning and goal setting and to facilitate this phase, the Vestry will meet on April 6
th
to develop some short-term goals for the next 6 to 12 months. The final phase, the discernment process, will lead to a decision about permanent placement.
Other Business
Libby Tracey asked about the confirmation classes and Max said there will be five sessions of about 90 minutes each and they will begin after Easter. A number of people have already indicated they want to be either confirmed or formally accepted into the Episcopal church.

Inquirers Class Forming
Father Max is gathering a group for an Inquirers class series. Those interested in learning more about The Episcopal Church, and those preparing for Confirmation or Reception during Bishop Gates’ island visitation on June 8-9, please inform Christine in the office or Father Max.
