Prayer of the Week
For the Parish
Almighty and everliving God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth, hear our prayers for this parish family. Strengthen the faithful, arouse the careless, and restore the penitent. Grant us all things necessary for our common life, and bring us all to be of one heart and mind within your holy Church;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Flowers on Sunday
When we think about providing flowers for the altar for Sunday services, we traditionally think of giving them in memory of a loved one who has passed away, which is a beautiful way of honoring them.. But have you considered honoring a living loved one such as a graduating son, daughter or grandchild? Your own wedding anniversary or birthday, or that of a friend or relative? A neighbor’s baptism, confirmation, wedding? How about someone’s current achievement (good grades, sports feat, business success)? The possibilities are numerous and varied for providing the altar flowers for any or many weeks of the year. And your flowers keep on giving joy throughout the following days as they are recreated into smaller arrangements and delivered by Church members to various homebound folks needing cheer. Providing flowers for the altar on Sunday is one of the easiest forms of creative ministry. Please call Christine at the Parish House, 508-228-0916, to schedule your gift of flowers.

A Summary of Vestry Actions taken at its January 9
th
Meeting.
Treasurer’s report
A late bill for painting was received which will necessitate revising the Treasurer’s report for this month and, once the report is revised, it will be distributed to the Vestry. The bill for the painting was much higher than anticipated and this prompted a discussion about the need for better controls for work being done. A motion was made, seconded and approved by unanimous vote to adopt the Treasurer’s report.
Fellowship committee report
The committee would welcome new members; the beginning of the year is an excellent time to join. Coming up in January, there will be the potluck luncheon following the Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 26
th
and
a Pizza and Bingo night on Friday, January 31
st
. In February, there will be the traditional Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on the 25
th
.
Tower report
Significant leaks had recently been observed in the tower when there is heavy rain and a northeast wind. These leaks have appeared after several months with only minor ones.
Brian Pfeiffer, our consultant and Fabio Bardini, our contractor, recommend using a lift to inspect the top of the tower and also to have another expert join them for the inspection. After discussion about the cost of this investigation, the Vestry agreed it should take place.
Priest-in-Charge Comments
Fr. Max noted the many successful events held during December and the large numbers who attended the various Christmas services, many of whom were not parishioners. He also thanked the Fellowship Committee for all the planning, organizing and cooking involved with Our activities. He also noted with great sadness the passing of Marianne Felch on Christmas day. He is pleased with the activities of the committees and noted the return of many students to the island for the holidays. He announced that he and Olly will be on vacation from February 13
th
through February 21
st
and that the Rev. Peter Chase
will fill in then.
Stewardship report
The campaign has gone well so far and follow-up calls are being made to the 34 who have not returned their cards. We have received 159 pledges to date, and this compares with 37 for last year. 52 families have increased their pledges and there have been 24 new pledges. The total amount pledge is $335,250 or $67,000 more than last year.
Warden’s report
A motion was made, seconded and approved unanimously to allocate $5,000, the amount received last year from the sale of the rug, to Outreach with the Outreach Committee submitting a recommendation to the Vestry for the disposition of these funds. The Nominating Committee has recommended Peter Barnes for the remaining Vestry position. All the remaining Vestry members whose terms expire, the officers and the delegates will be renominated at the Annual Meeting. Dual Macintyre has been appointed to chair the Discernment Committee and that the following Vestry members had volunteered to serve: Mark Beale, Libby Tracey, Yvette St. Jean, and Scott Widmeyer. Additional parishioners will be asked to volunteer and the organizational meeting of the committee will be held in February.
