Prayer of the Week
For the Joy in God’s Creation
O heavenly Father,
who hast
filled the world with beauty: Open our eyes to behold thy gracious hand in all thy works; that, rejoicing in
thy
whole creation, we may learn to serve
thee
with gladness; for the sake of him through whom all things were made, thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

2020 Stewardship Campaign
Our 2020 Stewardship Campaign is underway, with a brochure and pledge/gift card mailed to parishioners earlier this month.
Next Sunday, November 3rd, is Pledge Sunday, our in-church gathering of pledge cards.
We invite you to participate, but you can also mail your cards in at anytime by the end of the year, as well as contribute online at our website. We also have extra brochures and pledge cards on the table at the back of the church and in the church entryway.
The Pledging and Gifting process gives us a certainty of revenues that is invaluable for the church's financial planning. We believe that a meaningful contribution to our community--with financial and volunteer participation--is an integral part of our mission. And we'd always like to do more with our programs, ministries and outreach. Ideally, we would be able to commit the proceeds from our event fundraising activities – the Summer Fair, the Christmas Market, the Ships Inn dinners, etc.-which generate some $50,000 annually--to helping our community. However, these funds are currently needed to finance our operations.
You have generously supported St. Paul’s, and we’d like to expand our support for our island. We can only do so if you are prepared to open your hearts and increase your pledges and gifts. We are exploring ways to most effectively serve our island community with needs not now met by other nonprofit organizations. If you have pledged or gifted before, please prayerfully consider increasing your pledge or gift for 2020. If you have not pledged or gifted before, please consider making a pledge or gift. You can adjust your pledge or gift up or down if your circumstances change. For more information on giving to St. Paul’s, please visit us at
http://stpaulschurchnantucket.org/giving/
. We also welcome your advice and ideas for church stewardship, our campaign and how additional funds could be used in our outreach. Thank you.

A Summary of Vestry Actions taken at its October 10th Meeting.
Treasurer’s Report
The Treasurer’s reported that September was a good month but that all the income from the last Ships Inn dinner will be reflected in the October report. He noted that we are on target with the budget this year and we are directionally headed toward a break-even year. Our unrestricted gifts are are below expectations and he suggested we need to reach out during the summer to ask for more gifts so that we may be able to increase our outreach efforts.
Finance Committee Resolution
Resolution 2019-10-1 was read to the Vestry and will authorize certain officers to take various actions with respect to investments with the Vanguard Group, Inc. A motion was made, seconded and approved unanimously to approve Resolution 2019-10-1.
Fellowship Committee Report
Libby Tracey reviewed the successful BBQ and hymn sing held at the end of September and the last Ship’s Inn dinner, held on October 3rd. Looking ahead, she talked about the Octoberfest planned for October 18th, the annual Christmas luncheon on December 15th, and several other items in the coming months. The committee also discussed the need to replace the stove in the Parish house kitchen as the oven is inoperable. The Vestry gave approval to replace the appliances, as necessary.
Priest-in-Charge Comments
Father Max noted how successful Laundry Love has been and how one participant told him she “feels safe there” in the church. He also noted that Joe Hammer will be on vacation starting October 25th and that Campbell Sutton has volunteered to help with our website. Pam Goddard has organized several teen concerts with different local bands and that Somewhat Spooky Halloween will be held on October 25th and 26th.
Stewardship Update
Pam Goddard reported that 336 letters had been mailed at the beginning of October and that the in-gathering of pledge cards would be on November 3rd.
Warden’s Reports
Lou Gennaro noted that the four Vestry members whose terms expire in January are eligible for another term. He feels the energy level in the Parish is high and that the random seating arrangements at the Ships Inn dinners was a great success.
Other Business
Robert Inglis reported that water leaks had been found in the tower after the last storm but that Luke Thornewill had taken photos of all the locations and will work with Florentine Masonry when they return to correct the problems. He also said the painting in the Rectory is 75% completed but the tree work has been delayed by the weather.
