Community News & Events

Dear Friends,

Some of you have heard of the Blue Zones - places in the world where people live unusually long and healthy lives. Blue Zones has been featured in The National Geographic on several occasions over the years, including a popular cover edition that's on display now.

We're excited to tell you there is a move to bring a Blue Zones initiative to Newberry. This would build on the Eat Smart Move More Newberry County backed by many Newberry entities in the community over the past few years. In over 40 locations around the US, there is a Blue Zones Project underway - communities dedicated to transform into places of greater health, well-being and longevity.

We believe Newberry can be one of these Blue Zones communities - a place where we can live longer, happier and healthier lives - which in turn would attract those seeking out places to live and establish new business, to locate in Newberry.

We are looking forward to hosting Tony Buettner, Executive Vice President of Blue Zones, Inc, and a national speaker, for an introductory meeting, Tuesday, November 13th at 6 p.m. at Community Hall in downtown Newberry. Please join us as we look at key ways to improve our health and discover Blue Zones unique, systemic approach to improving well-being - focusing on our "life radius." Let's improve Newberry's health and wellness and join forces with those who have already made the transformation to a healthier Blue Zones community.

We will need your support as we move forward. This effort isn't about one, two, or three people, it's truly about community. To show our commitment to a healthier lifestyle, we'll have door prizes, including a new FitBit Blaze fitness watch.

We look forward to seeing you on November 13th as we learn together of the benefits of becoming Blue Zones Newberry. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with us by contacting Bernardo Geriatrics & Home Care at 803-321-3035.

Until then, please check out bluezones.com.
