Pinal County and the City of Apache Junction have begun work on the creation of Superstition Basin, a stormwater retention area that will help reduce the impacts of flooding events in downtown Apache Junction.

County Encouraging Community to Take Part in 'Dark Sky Lights Out' Event Across Pinal County | |
Pinal County is encouraging residents to take part in a Dark Sky Lights Out event across Pinal County, as part of International Dark Sky Week, which takes place from April 2, 2024, through April 8, 2024.
Earlier this week, the Pinal County Board of Supervisors approved a proclamation adopting the week, as "International Dark Sky Week" in Pinal County.
On Monday, April 8th, for thirty minutes from 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., we encourage Pinal County residents to join us in observing a thirty-minute 'Dark Skies Lights Out' Event across Pinal County, turning off all unnecessary lighting indoors and outdoors at home in order to reduce light pollution, step outside and look up, and enjoy the beauty of the night sky and the wonders of our universe! At this week's Board meeting, the Board of Supervisors proclaimed March 18-22, 2024, as Public Defense Week in recognition of the 61st anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling in Gideon v. Wainwright. The ruling Gideon v. Wainwright ordered that defendants without means must be provided professional legal representation in accordance with the 6th Amendment of the United States Constitution. Pinal County Public Defender Kate Milewski Earns the William Rothstein Achievement Award from the Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice (AACJ)

Kate's exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to justice have earned her the William Rothstein Achievement Award from the Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice (AACJ).
In Kate's time as the leader of the Public Defender's office, she implemented workload review and controls, started a mitigation unit, started an appellate unit, and developed a training program. Kate worked closely with county management to ensure fair promotional opportunities for her attorney and pay parity with the prosecutor's office. Her work is appreciated not only by her employees but all the other stakeholders in the criminal justice system, in Pinal County and beyond. Read full story

Pinal County District 2 Supervisor Mike Goodman and Pinal County Development Services will be hosting a community cleanup for all San Tan Valley residents. At no charge, residents can dispose of large items and household waste. See the flyer below for accepted items. Paper shredding is available.

ARIZONA@WORK Pinal County Seeking Public Input on Service Delivery Needs Through Spring Event Series | |
ARIZONA@WORK Pinal County is preparing its four-year plan to address the multifaceted needs of its job seeker and employer customers. To gain insight related to workforce development from the unique demographics in the various geographic regions of Pinal County, the Pinal County Workforce Development Board is planning a series of community engagement events in several Pinal County communities. These events will consist of a brief overview of the ARIZONA@WORK Pinal County service offerings and then engage in a dialog with attendees regarding their views on workforce services in their area.
Members of the public, including employers, are invited to participate in these events to help guide ARIZONA@WORK Pinal County in designing its service delivery model.

Love Your Community Cleanup Event

Supervisor Mike Goodman has organized a Love Your Community Cleanup Day for Saturday, April 6. Community members are invited to volunteer to help clean up our roads and other areas in the San Tan Valley community that need some love.
This event has been aligned with the free community dump days at our public works yard, so any garbage collected can be quickly dropped off at no cost. If you know of another area in need, please let us know, and we will happily add it to the list.
