Strategic Pillar #3: Education
Happy Friday! Today is the last day of January and the final segment in our strategy overview. First, we talked about advocacy, and then we spent a couple of weeks talking about collaboration. Today, our focus is on our third strategic pillar: education and partnerships. Through our 2024 engagement survey, as well as feedback from you, education is a key expectation you have of Montana’s Credit Unions. The great news is that Montana’s Credit Unions is known throughout the state and country for our top-notch educational programming. This is evidenced by strong feedback from our participants, as well as ongoing interest from league and association peers around the country to aid with their events. Ranel, Renee, and Kelsey, with support from the rest of the team, do an amazing job!
For our strategic initiative around education and partnerships, we continue to evaluate and launch new and relevant programs across various roles within the credit union. Our communities are a great space to connect with and learn from one another about relevant topics. Our face-to-face events provide top thought leadership as well as networking opportunities. We offer programs for leaders of all levels through Take the Lead and Personify Leadership. This year, we are offering a Personify Leadership Deep Dive program for past participants of the core program. We are also launching an Experiential Facilitation program for trainers, facilitators, and others interested in developing their facilitator skills.
We offer several webinars and self-study options, as well as direct engagement with members of our team for guidance and learning. One personal example is board leadership. I have board leadership on my development plan for 2025, and Donya has been a wonderful resource to point me in the direction of several resources.
We continue to evaluate, refresh, and update programs to ensure they remain relevant to you. Look for updates in our credit union philosophy training, as well as our director resources. We are part of the design team (along with John DeGroot from Clearwater CU) to offer a new program this spring: the Coop Academy. Did you know that credit unions are part of over 300 cooperatives across Montana? We serve alongside electric coops, broadband coops, ag coops, several worker-owned coops, and others to support our communities across the state. The Coop Academy is designed to help team members without our cooperative sectors learn about the cooperative principles, how we uniquely serve our communities, and the connections we have with various coops. I am really excited about this new program!
Finally, think about your own development for 2025 and how Montana’s Credit Unions can support your plan. I have three objectives on my plan this year with three different delivery methods:
-
Deepen my facilitator skills by becoming certified in the Personify Leadership Deep Dive program (a face-to-face session)
-
Increase awareness in board relations and leadership (utilizing several self-study options)
-
Grow my advocacy “muscle” (on-the-job training as part of the Advocacy Champion program)
Development takes many forms, and I am proud of the many ways Montana’s Credit Unions supports your development as you grow in your credit union career. When you talk with our team, ask them what they have on their development plan for 2025. Please reach out and let me know what you have on your development plan, too!
Go into this weekend thinking about how you can learn something new and make a difference next week.
Cooperatively, Gerry
