December 13, 2024

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

My office is committed to a dual approach that prioritizes both the rigorous prosecution of crime and the proactive investment in our communities.

That is why we are currently seeking proposals from qualified applicants to implement the 2024 Queens Community Violence Prevention Project (QDA-QCVPP).

QCVPP, originally launched in 2021, fosters a collaborative environment where community leaders and law enforcement officials work together to enhance public safety.

The project's goals are to increase community mobilization and messaging around anti-gun violence activities and initiatives, increase community-led responses to denounce violent incidents, develop better connections to support services, increase positive engagements with the law enforcement and, ultimately, reduce violent crime.

Proposal submissions are due by Monday, January 6, 2025, at 5 p.m. Click here to apply or see the flyer below for further information.

My top priority will always be keeping you and your loved ones safe.

In Friendship,

Melinda Katz

Queens District Attorney

Cases of Interest

  • A Queens Village man was sentenced to 24 years in prison for the shooting death of his friend after the two men argued over an unpaid debt on the day after Christmas in 2021.

Annual Widows and Children's Holiday Party

My office proudly participated in the annual Widows and Children’s Holiday Party hosted by the New York City Police Benevolent Association.

The heartfelt event is dedicated to honoring and supporting the families of police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Each officer's sacrifice is a profound loss that resonates deeply within our community, and it is essential that we stand in solidarity with those they left behind.

During the event, I also had the pleasure of greeting the newly appointed NYPD Commissioner, Jessica Tisch. I look forward to our continued partnership in keeping Queens safe.

Clergy Advisory Council

I recently hosted a meeting of my Clergy Advisory Council, underscoring the vital importance of maintaining strong connections with the faith leaders of our borough. My office recognizes that faith leaders play a crucial role in fostering community safety and awareness.

During our meeting, we educated clergy members about the latest scams and frauds that may be targeting their congregations.

Information Wanted

If you have information regarding the death of Noel Hidalgo, killed in Richmond Hill 11 years ago, contact NYPD Crimestoppers by calling 800-577-TIPS, or through the online form.

It is never too late for justice.

Queens Civic Congress Legislative Reception

The annual Legislative Reception recently hosted by the Queens Civic Congress served as a vital platform for community engagement, bringing together elected officials, civic members and associations.

This year's event also held special significance as we honored the legacy of former President Kevin Forrestal, whose commitment to community service left an indelible mark on Queens.

As we welcome the newly elected officers of the Queens Civic Congress, we reaffirm our collective responsibility to enhance public safety and justice throughout the borough.

A Cause A Concern A Solution Network Holiday Celebration

A Cause A Concern A Solution Network, founded by Chaplain Christina Winslow (pictured below, far right), is a grassroots organization developed to address the needs of women, children and veterans in our communities.

It was a pleasure to attend their annual holiday celebration. The superhero themed program provided food, treats, vendors and giveaways for families in the Southeast Queens community.

Toys Giveaway

We are hosting additional Holiday Toy Giveaways for Queens families!

Two events are taking place on Saturday, December 14, and you will find the details below. We look forward to seeing you!
