Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I joined members of the NYPD at the 116th Precinct in Rosedale this week for a plaque dedication in honor of Detective First Grade Jonathan Diller.

Just over a year ago, Detective Diller was tragically killed in the line of duty while on patrol in Far Rockaway. The case against his accused killer, brought by my office, is pending in court as the defendant faces up to life in prison without parole if convicted.

Members of law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities and it is the duty of this office to achieve justice when someone attacks an NYPD officer.

The plaque dedication alongside Detective Diller's family and loved ones was a poignant reminder of his exemplary service and the profound impact he made in our community. He leaves a lasting legacy as a dutiful public servant.

My office stands in solidarity with the NYPD as we work to uphold the values of justice and safety that Detective Diller embodied.

My top priority will always be keeping you and your loved ones safe.

In Friendship,

Melinda Katz

Queens District Attorney

Cases of Interest

  • A Jamaica man was charged with rape and sexual abuse for allegedly accosting and then raping a 50-year-old woman in the early morning hours of April 11. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
  • Two men have been indicted on charges of sex trafficking and other crimes for trafficking a Chinese woman inside an East Flushing brothel. The woman arrived in the US from China in November and was taken to a location with other women where her cash and jewelry were confiscated. She was then forced to engage in prostitution and held against her will.
  • A Corona man was charged with murder, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon for the fatal stabbing of Anderson David Archila Martinez in Jackson Heights on April 14. The defendant is accused of stealing the victim's bicycle and stabbing the victim as he tried to retrieve his property.

Illegal Scooters Seizure

My office has continued our enforcement efforts against illegally parked and unregistered scooters on our streets and sidewalks.

Over the past few weeks, we seized 66 scooters in Jackson Heights, Corona, Long Island City and Sunnyside, in partnership with the NYPD and State Police.

The latest operations bring our overall tally to 1,195 scooters seized since the start of the initiative last year.

Information Wanted

If you have information regarding the death of Jordan Santos, who was killed in Glendale 10 years ago, please contact NYPD Crimestoppers by calling 800-577-TIPS, or through the online form.

It is never too late for justice.

Flushing Spring Family Day

My office was proud to co-sponsor the annual Flushing Spring Family Day in Kissena Corridor Park hosted by Garden of Hope in collaboration with the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

The outdoor gathering offered an abundance of free resources and valuable information for families, ensuring that Queens residents feel empowered, joyful and safe.

Community Board 12 Meeting and Celebration

It was a pleasure to join Community Board 12 for their monthly meeting and a retirement celebration for District Manager Yvonne Reddick after more than 40 years of service.

Recognizing outstanding community leaders like Yvonne reinforces our work toward public safety and civic empowerment.
