Dear Friends and Neighbors,
New York’s Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO), or “Red Flag” law, prevents individuals who show signs of being a threat to themselves or others from legally purchasing or possessing a firearm.

Amid legal challenges to the law, I recently joined three amicus briefs in support of the ERPO statute, which is being defended in court by State Attorney General Letitia James.

Fighting the scourge of gun violence is a top priority of my office. We use every tool at our disposal to take dangerous weapons off the street, including aggressively prosecuting offenders and interrupting the supply chain by targeting ghost gun manufacturers. In fact, earlier this week I announced a slew of weapons charges against two defendants who allegedly stockpiled firearms, including ghost guns, as well as ammunition and gun-making tools.

Securing an ERPO when appropriate is a part of our overall strategy.

My office will continue working with our law enforcement partners, legislative leaders, community members, faith-based institutions, violence interrupters, and youth development organizations on comprehensive solutions to end the epidemic of gun violence plaguing our communities.

My top priority will always be keeping you and your loved ones safe.

In Friendship,

Melinda Katz
Queens District Attorney

If you have information about Neshawn Plummer, who was killed in Far Rockaway eight years ago, contact NYPD Crimestoppers by calling 800-577-TIPS, or through the online form.

It is never too late for justice.
School Supplies Giveaway
Following our back-to-school giveaway, some 800 children are now equipped with essential supplies as they gear up for a successful new school year!

My office is proud to have partnered with LiveOnNY and the Queens Public Library in Flushing to make this happen for families.
Therapy Dog Wellness Event
The Animal Cruelty Prosecutions Unit in my office is dedicated exclusively to the investigation and prosecution of crimes against animals. They spearheaded a wellness event for our office staff with Therapy Dogs International.

Employees had the opportunity to interact with the therapy dogs while learning more about the certification process and the benefits the dogs can offer to crime victims.
NAACP Freedom Fund BBQ
I was glad to join Assembly Member Jeffrion Aubry and State Senator Jessica Ramos for a barbecue hosted by the NAACP's Corona East Elmhurst Branch. Members enjoyed good food and time with community leaders, family and neighbors.

I thank Branch President George Dixon and Gloria Dixon for inviting me into their home.
Community Event with Chef Premo
Chef Premo Sanders has been actively serving the Southeast Queens community for years and hosting an annual community day for local residents and families. Held on Farmers Boulevard in Jamaica, the event is known as Farmers Day.

I was able to stop by over the weekend to show my support and discuss my office's crime prevention efforts.
