Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The Crime Strategies and Intelligence Bureau I created launches investigations every day to proactively find illegal weapons and prevent tragedies before they occur.

My office recently secured an indictment against two brothers after a six-month investigation led to the discovery of an arsenal of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and ghost guns, including assault rifles, inside their Astoria apartment.

Instructions for making a variety of bombs, anarchist propaganda and a “hit list,” with “cops, judges, politicians, celebrities” and “banker scum” scrawled on it, were also found during a search of the home executed by my office, the NYPD, and our federal law enforcement partners.

We cannot measure the number of lives that were saved, but we do know that these weapons will never hurt anyone. The mere act of removing samples from these IEDs to submit for lab testing was a risky and dangerous endeavor for the NYPD bomb squad detectives. I applaud their heroic efforts in the execution of this search warrant.

My office will hold the defendants accountable as they each face up to 25 years in prison, if convicted.

The city is safer because of our constant vigilance to locate and prosecute those who manufacture ghost guns.

My top priority will always be keeping you and your loved ones safe.

In Friendship,

Melinda Katz
Queens District Attorney

Event Honoring Congressmembers
The Vaad Harabbonim of Queens hosted a special event to honor Congressman Gregory Meeks and Congresswoman Grace Meng for their leadership.

It was a pleasure to attend this expression of appreciation for the Congress members' work in support of all Queens communities.
Human Trafficking Awareness
Members of my Human Trafficking Bureau joined the Queens Community Justice Center for a public information session about the signs of human trafficking activity and the resources available for victims.

This bureau aggressively investigates and prosecutes sex and labor trafficking crimes while also connecting survivors with meaningful support services and tools to enable them to safely escape their situations. Contact 718-286-6548 or HumanTrafficking@queensda.org if you need help.
Black History Month Celebration
As we enter February, we are reminded of the importance of Black History Month. It's a time to reflect on the incredible contributions of the Black community and to honor those who fought for civil rights and equality.

Queens is proud to carry on this legacy as we continue to champion social and political change. From the visionaries and activists who paved the way for us, to the countless unsung heroes who have made their mark on history, we stand together in solidarity.

Join us this month as we celebrate Black history and work toward a brighter future for all.
