Dear Friends and Neighbors,
A home in St. Albans was returned to its rightful owners this week through the first-ever use of a state law enacted to protect deed fraud victims. Armed with the conviction of a scheme participant, we successfully petitioned the court to undo the criminal handiwork to which this family, including a disabled veteran, fell prey.

Homeowners shouldn't have to go up against mortgage companies, banks or title insurers in civil court after they have already been victimized by opportunistic crooks.

When I started the Housing and Worker Protection Bureau three years ago, I promised to protect homeowners from predatory real estate scams that often target vulnerable neighborhoods.

We will follow through with the prosecution of these complicated cases and go the extra distance to make sure homeowners get their property titles restored.

My top priority will always be keeping you and your loved ones safe.

In Friendship,

Black History Month
I enjoyed the Black History Month celebration at the Black Spectrum Theater along with New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and program host Kyle Bragg, retired president of 32BJ SEIU. Councilmember Nantasha Williams sponsored the program.
Greek Homeowners Association
I attended a Greek American Homeowners Association to address crime prevention in Astoria and community concerns about property crime. Police representatives from the 114th Precinct also joined the conversation.
Jamaica Estates Town Hall Meeting
I joined several elected officials at a recent meeting of the Jamaica Estates Association (JEA) to hear community concerns and respond to questions about bail law changes. Engaged residents are the foundation of safe neighborhoods. I thank JEA for the opportunity to visit with them.
