Dear Village Resident,
Fish Boil was a big catch!

Thank you Spring Grove for the great turnout at our Fish Boil for Hatchery Park! The rain didn’t dampen any determination to get out and enjoy the evening. It was great to see so many of you for a good old-fashioned community event.

We served over 500 meals and raised much needed funds for Hatchery Park. The number one goal was to get back to some normalcy and see our community come together, and we accomplished that goal!

This event couldn’t have been possible with out the help of many volunteers, and local businesses and individual support. I would like to thank all of them for their continued support of our community. And a special thank you to Village Clerk Sandi Rusher for her leadership and event coordination.

View more photos of the event here!

Next up - the 4th of July celebration starting with the street dance on Saturday night with Bella Cain, food trucks, and beverages, followed by our parade on Sunday at noon. The celebration will end with a big fireworks display at Thelen park Sunday night.

Hope everyone can get out and enjoy the festivities.
Thank You to Our Donors and Volunteers!
We sold 573 dinners and raised over $10,000 to benefit Hatchery Park!

Blast from the Past - 1907 4th of July
Mayor Anton Schaefer who was also the town embalmer and funeral director!
The 1907 Schaffer's Orchestra of Johnsburg would have looked something like this one, but with a trap drummer included
Spring Grove has been a 4th of July destination point for many years. In 1907 the village celebrated the 4th of July starting with a parade led by the Johnsburg Band! The "Honorable Fred Hatch" (of upright silo fame) spoke, a flag drill was performed by sixteen young ladies, patriotic songs where sung and an "old fashioned" picnic dinner was enjoyed.

After dinner, various races, a ball game and dancing in the pavilion furnished amusement to all. Music was by Schaffer's orchestra of Johnsburg, including a trap drummer and trombone player of Lyon & Healy's of Chicago. There were "good purses" for all the races and refreshments of all kinds served.

The newspaper reported that, "the crowd was large and one of the most orderly, well-behaved ever seen at such a gathering. Mayor Schaefer and the other members of the committee proved to be the right on in the right places and deserve great credit for the success of the day. Many from Ringwood, Solon, Greenwood, Johnsburg, Richmond, Wilmot, Fox Lake and Lotus Point were present."

Happy 4th of July!
