Halloween Trick or Treating is on Sunday, October 31, from 3-7 PM.
Trunk or Treat
You're invited to Trunk or Treat at Horse Fair Park this Saturday, October 30 from 1 - 3:00 PM. Prizes awarded for best adult, child & pet costumes and best decorated car, trunk or table! Admission is free! Register by October 28 if you would like to decorate and pass out candy. Brought to you by the Community Engagement Committee. View the flyer here.
Deer-Vehicle Accidents
Most deer-vehicle accidents occur from October thru December from 5:00 - 8:00 AM and 5:00 - 10:00 PM. It's instinctive to swerve out of the way when a deer suddenly darts in front of you, but this can cause you to lose control and cause a more severe crash. If a collision is inevitable, IDOT says, “try to glance the vehicle off the deer and avoid swerving into the opposite lanes of traffic.” For more safe driving tips during deer-mating season click here.
Purchase Stickers by November 12 to Avoid a Ticket
car-sales-lot.jpg
Do you still need to purchase your vehicle stickers? The 2021-22 vehicle sticker fee doubled on October 1 to $40 per vehicle. If stickers are not purchased by November 12, tickets will be issued. The police will be making periodic subdivision checks to make sure stickers have been purchased for all vehicles and that they are being displayed properly. Drop the envelope in the Municipal Centre drop-box, purchase in person, or make a payment on-line here.
Halloween Drive Sober Campaign
The Spring Grove Police Department is stepping up impaired driving enforcement for Halloween. Motorists are reminded of the importance of planning for a sober ride home and keeping watch for little goblins walking along the road after dark. Read some simple tips to help keep everyone safe this Halloween!
  • Plan for a safe and sober way home before you go out: designate a sober driver, take public transportation, use your favorite ride-sharing service, or call a sober friend or family member.
  • Use your community’s sober ride program.
  • Remember, walking while impaired can be just as dangerous as driving impaired.
  • Designate a sober friend to walk you home.
  • If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact local law enforcement.
  • If an impaired person is about to drive, take their keys and help them get home safely.

Blast from the Past
Haunted Castle at Horse Fair Park
Would you have the nerve to enter this haunted castle? The long lines of area children each year proved that they did! It was sponsored by the Spring Grove Police Department for a few years in the late 1980s. Bob Hahn and Jack Kaminski built the props and many others helped set it up and run it. Kelly Popelka remembers one year there was a maze made out of hay bales, it was dark and there were strobe lights and someone with a chainsaw. You went in and wanted to run from the chainsaw sound but you couldn't because you kept tripping on the hay bales! Fun times.
