In a world of fast fashion and fast furniture, functional art invites us to slow down and appreciate the details. This is art you can sit on, drink out of, or wear on your feet. It reflects the natural surroundings, and nowhere is this clearer than in the American West. Many of today's master artisans are aging out of the craft, and the path to preserve this uniquely American art form is at stake.

Pop of Culture

This week on Pop of Culture, we look well ahead at the 50th James Dean Festival in Fairmount, Indiana (always the last full weekend in September). The president of the The James Dean Museum—Christy Pulley Berry—gives us the history of both the museum and the festival. We're also joined by jazz and blues artist Jasmine Colette of Blue Moon Marquee. The duo had to miss last year's Muncie Three Trails Music Series, so she shares a primer before their visit. And we take you Behind the Song with live performances from local musicians Anna Owens and Joel David Weir.

This film follows pastor and activist Doug Pagitt on a 66-day bicycle journey tracing the length of the U.S.–Mexico border and beyond. Encountering migrants, aid workers, and opposing political movements along the way, the film explores immigration, nationalism, faith, and the question of who belongs in America.

Editor Susan Ryeland is hired to work on a continuation novel of the Atticus Pünd series, written by a troubled young author. When the job leads Susan into another murder case, she unexpectedly finds herself a suspect. In the world of the novel, Atticus Pünd is visiting the Isle of Corfu when he becomes embroiled in the murder of Lady Margaret Chalfont, whose family he investigates with the assistance of a Greek detective.
