Reconnecting New Zealand with the world has already begun in a phased manner. The Government has brought forward the opening of the borders for tourists from April 2022 onwards, which will boost the troubled tourism sector.
There’s also good news for overseas partners of onshore migrant workers who will be allowed to enter New Zealand in the fourth phase starting from July 2022. In addition, partners of students will be able to reunite with their loved ones when the fifth phase opens in October 2022. All of course, is subject to holding a valid visa.

Furthermore, from 14 March 2022, the Government has announced the reopening of the Working Holiday Visa (WHV) schemes in phases to boost New Zealand’s economic recovery.
Change is constant, with INZ introducing new border exceptions and expanding some existing ones.
Phase 2 of the 2021 Resident Visa application process began on 1 March 2022, with vast volumes of applications already lodged with INZ. The processing of these applications will start at the end of March in order of the principal applicant’s visa expiry date at the time of application submission. This means that the applications will not be processed on a first-come-first-served basis.
