Advocacy In Action

Advocates on Capitol Hill for the Buddy Walk on Washington
Self Advocates prepare for the walk
Wisconsin Upside Down has been hard at work advocating for people with Down syndrome nationally and in our home state.

WIUSD recently joined advocates from all over the country at the Buddy Walk on Washington to encourage our Congressmen and women to support bills that help better the lives of people with Down syndome. We discussed how changes to Medicaid that affect individuals with Down syndrome and we encouraged them to join the Congressional Task Force on Down syndrome.
Jennifer and Joe Brydges of MADSS.ORG, WIUSD members, Sara Soldovieri, Kelly and Robbin Lyons meet with Senator Tammy Baldwin in DC.
The WIDSAC group also met with Paul Ryan's office to discuss issues important to the Down syndrome community.

Here in Wisconsin we attended Disability Day at the State Capitol, where Medicaid changes were a big part of the discussion. We also talked about the new budget and special education. Members of ourt advocacy committee have also attended multiple town hall meetings and in person meetings with our state legislators and congressman.

Self Advocate Kelly Lyons and Robbin Lyons (WIUSD President) speak up at Congressman Sensenbrenner's town hall meeting in Hartland.
