Father   Knows Best?

You can read Governor Brown's mansplanation of what gender discrimination is in his veto of AB 570  here.. Read More

Or you can read its translation here:

Dear Ladies,

I came of age in the 60's and 70's.

But like today's cool tech companies, I  support pay equity in concept. That doesn't mean you should take that literally. Let me help you understand.

You have a right to get pregnant. And you have a right to get a job. But women you must defer to the rights of Workers' Compensation insurance companies to discount what they will pay you if you get hurt while you are pregnant. So please be more careful at work. Sit down. You are pregnant!!!

The State Constitution was written by very wise, older men. And I have a duty to make sure that we protect that.

We simply can't start interpreting what these men wrote to suit your emotional whims and fancies .

If I make insurance companies pay for pregnant women's injuries without doing the same for pregnant men, I would be dishonoring our forefathers.

Veto is an old-fashioned word. I study old-fashioned stuff. Maybe you don't know that "veto" is a Latin acronym (I love Latin) "vaginas exempted today obliquely."

So please don't let your emotions get the best of you. Together we can honor motherhood with my veto.
