The Office of Local and Regional Health (OLRH) at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health has rolled out the new annual local public health worforce standards survey. As a member of a board of health or health department, you are now required to fill this survey out each year under the SAPHE 2.0 Law ( M.G.L. c. 111, § 27D(b) ). This new law requires annual reporting on the ability of local public health in Massachusetts to meet the Performance Standards, including the  Workforce Standards. The first aspect of this reporting is this survey, followed by a health-department level survey due at the end of April.

Participating in this reporting process will better equip local public health and the state with the information needed to support the workforce to provide comprehensive, high-quality public health services to your residents, as well as assist in estimating future costs.  This survey should be completed annually by all Health Department staff, other municipal staff whose work supports the Health Department, shared regional staff, Board of Health members, and independent contractors supporting the Health Department. 

The Workforce Standards Survey is completely anonymous, cannot be tied back to an individual staff member, and results will be combined for reporting at the statewide level. The estimated time needed to complete this survey is around 20-30 minutes.
