The #1 topic Darcy and I are asked about lately is the hiring and retention of people. The pain felt by organizations around this topic is real.

The Playbook has evolved from believing the exchange of money for work, plus an occasional office party, is enough to keep team members interested and engaged. Employees want more than a paycheck. They also want: A POSITIVE culture and place to work ENGAGEMENT in work that matters Business that has PURPOSE beyond just making money RECOGNITION for their contributions Great PEOPLE to work alongside Development of their skills for GROWTH Without focus on these areas, you may be at risk. Sharing self-awareness: have a Birkman, will interview!  A former client recently called me to share great news about landing his dream job.   During our Career4Me session months prior, we reviewed his Birkman and talked about his strengths, one of which was him being highly persuasive. We discussed his optimal environment, types of managers he would work well with, and also how to maximize his communications style. He took it to heart and then used his Birkman as a tool in part of a discussion with the potential employer. Turns out the hiring manager was very impressed with the Birkman and that my client was aware of his strengths and interests early on in his career.

No matter what part of life’s journey you’re on, a Birkman is a roadmap of you. If you have one, pull it out! Use it to evaluate a job to make sure it aligns with your expectations so you can decide if it's the right opportunity. Refer to it when you are facing a work or personal challenge. A Birkman can help you see, on paper, your strengths, interest, and behaviors… and also some blind spots. Self-awareness will always serve you well and never goes out of style.
