Blankets
for
Columbus
State
Scholars
We loved working with the Scholar Network at Columbus State Community College to provide handmade blankets for the care packages each student received at the recent End of Semester Celebration. Each care package also included a laundry basket stuffed with gift cards, household items, food, toiletries, school supplies, and more.

The Network, which exists to support current and former foster youth at Columbus State, connects scholars to a mentor who supports the Scholar in focusing their attention on mastering academic and personal success. We are very pleased to play a small part in these scholars' support network.
Our 2023 goal: Blankets for 35,000 Children in Foster Care

Together we can do it, one blanket at a time!

From a foster Mom's viewpoint . . .
As a retired foster Mother, I have seen firsthand the joy and comfort of a child receiving something they can call their own as they come into foster care. Thru the years I had over 100 foster children come thru my home. Many times they arrive in the middle of the night with nothing but the clothes on their back--scared, confused, and feeling alone.

I am sure they would have settled in more quickly if they could have gone to bed with something familiar like their very own blanket to hug! Having a blanket to carry from home to home gives them some security that everything has NOT been taken away.

In my senior years I am excited to continue helping foster children thru MVOB.

Businesses support employee blanket-making efforts

Businesses can support and encourage their employees’ volunteer efforts in a number of ways.

  •  Providing paid volunteer days
  •  Organizing on-site or virtual blanket-making events
  •  Grants based on employee volunteer hours
How does YOUR employer encourage employee volunteer commitments?

Alstom employees donate blankets

Employees of Alstom Plattsburgh in Clinton County NY completed 12 blankets and donated them to their County Social Services. The fleece and tags were donated by individual employees.
Everyone enjoyed it so much that they want to continue the project during 2023.
Many thanks to Alstom Plattsburgh employees for supporting children in foster care in New York.
Bank of America awards grants for employee volunteer work

Thank you Tim, Kim and Abbey, creators of these amazing rainbow crochet blankets! Kim’s participation in this volunteer project earned a $1,000 employee volunteer grant for MVOB from her employer, Bank of America.

Thank you, Kim, for your years of taking advantage of this generous grant opportunity from your employer.
CVS awards volunteer grant

We were pleased that the volunteer work done by Blanket Angel Donna Todd was recognized in 2022 by the CVS Health Foundation with a $1,000 Volunteer Challenge Grant to MVOB.

Donna is part of a volunteer group that includes her sister, her mother and a friend. These quilters have created hundreds of blankets over several years for children in foster care. We are grateful for their commitment and for the CVS grant.
Ohio Health encourages volunteers

We are very fortunate to have regular volunteers from Ohio Health like the ones pictured here working in our shipping room.

Encouraged by their employer, Ohio Health volunteers spend time in our workshop on Monday evenings --sewing, cutting, folding and packing.

We are thankful for the support of the company and their faithful volunteers.
Hospital staff makes 100 blankets

The Highland District Hospital's X-Ray Dept. in Hillsboro, Ohio, recently hosted an employee blanket-making event.

Staff members like these provided blankets, love and support for 100 children living in foster care. We appreciate Highland District Hospital and its employees.
