WHAT'S NEW ON THE COMMBLOG

When the Calendar Gets Loud

by Katie Clark

For many churches, this past Sunday was Welcome Back Sunday — the unofficial (or very official) signal that the program year has begun.

And suddenly, everything is moving.

Programs are starting. Committees are meeting again. Calendars are filling. Events that seemed comfortably far away in June are now alarmingly close.

The pace of church work is never exactly quiet, but there is something about September that feels like shifting into a higher gear.

EXPERT-LED WORKSHOP

Bonus Special Series!

AI for Churches: A 3-Part Series

Tuesday, September 22 | 10:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM MT / 12:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM ET

AI is everywhere right now, and most of us are somewhere between curious and overwhelmed. This three-week cohort is for churches who want to move past the hype (and the dread) and figure out what AI actually looks like in day-to-day ministry. In the first two weeks, we've covered the

fundamentals: what AI is, what it isn't, and why it's worth your attention even if you're skeptical. From there, we got practical — how to actually talk to these tools so what comes back is useful instead of generic. Next Tuesday, we'll close with workflows: real systems you can put in place the week after the series ends, not just ideas to file away.

  • Week 3: Workflows — Practical systems churches can implement right away

Don't forget, you can catch Weeks 1 and 2 in our Workshop Archive:

  • Week 1: AI 101 — What it is, what it isn't, and why it matters for ministry
  • Week 2: Prompting — How to actually talk to AI tools and get useful results

This series is led by Katie Allred, an AI and community strategist who built and led online communities of 500,000+ members at companies like Meta and Adobe, and now helps churches and organizations put AI to practical use.

ADMINISTRATORS' CAFE ROUNDTABLE

The Meeting That Could've Been an Email (And Vice Versa)

Thursday, September 24 | 10:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM MT / 12:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM ET

Some things need a live conversation. Some things do not need to be a 45-minute Zoom call with six calendar invites and a follow-up survey. How do you decide what actually warrants a meeting, and how do you push back — kindly — when someone wants to schedule one anyway? Bring your best "this could've been an email" story and let's compare notes on where the line actually is.

CHURCH COLLABORATION MEETING

Volunteer Wrangling Without Losing Your Mind

Wednesday, October 7
| 10:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM MT / 12:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM ET

Volunteers are essential to church life, but managing communication, expectations, scheduling, and follow-through can sometimes become a ministry of its own. What systems, tools, and practices help create healthier volunteer cultures and clearer communication? Join us as we share frustrations, successes, and practical ideas for working with volunteers in ways that are sustainable and life-giving.

EXPERT-LED WORKSHOP

SEO for Churches

Tuesday, October 13 | 10:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM MT / 12:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM ET

If your church website feels like it's sitting quietly on the internet while nobody finds it, the fix is often simpler than you'd think. This workshop is a ground-floor introduction to search engine optimization (SEO), built for people who've never had reason to think about it before.

We'll cover how people actually search for a church online, the on-page basics that matter most, and local SEO through your Google Business Profile. We'll also flag the mistakes we see most often on church sites and send you home with a short list of changes you can make that same afternoon. No technical background required!

ADMINISTRATORS' CAFE ROUNDTABLE

Who Has the Password?

Tuesday, October 20 | 10:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM MT / 12:00 PM CT / 1:00 PM ET

The website login lives on a sticky note. The social media account is still under a volunteer who left in 2019. The church credit card is in three different Google Docs.

Every church has an access-and-accounts situation, and most of us are quietly managing it with duct tape and hope. Let's talk through how you track logins, hand off accounts when staff change, and keep things running without becoming the sole keeper of every password in the building.

The season change from summer to fall is a good time to get out and take some photographs to bolster your photo library. Whether it's photos of your campus as the leaves turn or pictures of church programs kicking off this season, it's a great time to build up this content.

Do you also need a photo policy for what photos your church can use in marketing or social media? Members can find an example in our Resource Hub!

This Week's Refill & Rest:

Close a loop, or let one go. What’s one thing hanging around your mental to-do list that you could finish in five minutes—or decide doesn’t actually need doing? Not everything needs another edit, another email, or another trip back to Canva. Give yourself permission to call something finished.
