Gratitude From Voluntad

Intern Spotlight — Letter From Our Intern

I came to Voluntad/Streets’ Hope as an intern as a part of my Master’s in Social Work program. I witnessed firsthand the critical role this organization plays in supporting survivors of human trafficking and strengthening community response systems. The agency’s work extends beyond direct services to survivors; it also focuses on prevention, education, and coordinated community intervention. This multi-layered approach enables the agency to create a lasting, sustainable impact within the communities it serves.

One of the most effective aspects of the organization is its ability to meet clients where they are at emotionally, physically, and culturally. Survivors are offered trauma-informed case management, safe housing resources, legal advocacy, and mental health support. Services are individualized rather than standardized, promoting self-determination and restoring a sense of personal agency that is often taken away through trafficking. The agency’s commitment to culturally responsive practice ensures that survivors’ identities, backgrounds, and unique experiences are honored and respected. In addition to direct service, the organization leads community education and outreach efforts that raise awareness about human trafficking, challenge common myths, and reduce stigma. I am honored to have the opportunity to experience this agency and all the good it provides to an especially marginalized community.

Colorado Gives Day 2025 is right around the corner!

This statewide movement of generosity is a powerful opportunity for our community to come together in support of survivors of human trafficking. This year, we aim to raise $50,000 to expand our supportive services, outreach, culturally responsive healing programs, and resources for both men and women in crisis. Support survivors this Colorado Gives Day 12/9.

As we enter the season of gratitude, all of us at Voluntad want to extend heartfelt thanks to our community, partners, donors, interns, and volunteers. Your commitment fuels our mission and strengthens our resolve to support survivors of human trafficking through healing-centered, community-driven programming.

Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month

November marks Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to uplift the emotional, psychological, and mental well-being of men in our communities.

At Voluntad, this awareness month carries deep significance. Nearly 50% of the survivors we serve are men, many of whom are victims of labor and sex trafficking. Men who experience trafficking often face unique barriers to seeking help, including stigma, fear of not being believed, and a lack of culturally responsive resources designed for them.

This month, we honor their resilience and recommit ourselves to providing trauma-informed, gender-responsive services that support men on their journey toward healing, stability, and self-determination.

Thank you for standing with us as we work to ensure men's mental health receives the visibility and care it deserves.
