Your recurring donation ~ giving love, giving purpose

..... EVERY MONTH!

As winter approaches, we encourage you to become a monthly donor to support our on-going efforts, giving love to children and older youth living in foster care in every season.

Just $20/month provides handmade blankets for 12 children this year, giving purpose to individuals in senior living (memory care/nursing home) communities and adult day care facilities!

Now’s the time to start shopping for holiday gifts for friends and family at our online quilt show fundraiser. We have a large selection of handmade, one-of-a-kind quilts of all sizes, for children and adults, seasonal creations, wall hangings, table runners – whimsical, decorative and beautiful. See them here.

When you choose one of these items, you will receive a beautiful gift AND you will directly contribute to providing blankets for some of the 700 children who enter foster care every day—children like those who receive Comfort Cases or those who have joined foster Mom Diane’s family. Read her story.

All quilts can be seen online and are available now with your donation. In December, the remaining quilts will be displayed for all the visitors at the Westerville Community Center to see. Choose your favorites now before someone else snaps them up!

Hard reality for foster youth – and a bit of comfort

We share this information from our friends at Comfort Cases. We are proud to supply blankets for many Comfort Cases.

As we dive into National Adoption Awareness Month, it's a sobering reminder that despite our collective efforts, the statistics continue to paint a harsh reality for countless young lives.

  • 23,000 youth age out of foster care every year and are left to fend for themselves
  • Over 50% of youth who age out of foster care will struggle with substance abuse
  • 7 out of 10 girls who age out will be pregnant by age 21
  • 60% of human trafficking victims spent time in foster care

In honor of this month, Comfort Cases launched the Georgia Takeover Program, a first-of-its-kind initiative in partnership with Amerigroup Georgia to provide Comfort Cases® to each child in foster care in Georgia, eliminating the need for them to carry their belongings in trash bags. Their goal: assemble 1,500 Comfort Cases in Georgia in November.

At 12 years old, Comfort Cases founder Rob Scheer was given a trash bag to pack his belongings, as he entered his first foster home.

Nearly 30 years later when he became a foster parent, his first four children arrived at his home with trash bags. He was saddened that nothing had changed.

Click to hear the rest of his story. (At 7:54, he tells us why they include blankets in Comfort Cases!)

Message from a Mom

We are always thrilled to see photos of a child with an MVOB blanket. This one came with a note from her Mom, Lindsay:

My daughter received a “my very own blanket.” She loves it! It is the perfect weight and size for her and so soft. She is often cuddled in it.

Thank you so much for all you do.

Our Giving Tree has arrived!

You are invited to help MVOB by providing much-needed items used in the workshop every day by volunteers and staff. Choose one or more items from the list below. Items in bold are most needed.

Bring your donation to the workshop weekdays between 9 am and Noon. While you’re here, choose an ornament from the Giving Tree to take home. See photos of more ornaments here.

If you wish to make a monetary donation, we will select an ornament and mail it to you. Celebrate this holiday season with a little giving. Thank you.

Blanket Angel Snapshots

Sulphur Grove UMC in Dayton, Ohio hosted another blanket event in October. Church members were joined by local ROTC members to make 51 blankets. Many thanks to this faithful group.

Last summer, Eagle Scout candidate Chad Pomerantz chose MVOB for his service project. He led 25 volunteers in Brooklyn, NY, to make 50 blankets, donated to foster children at Mercy First in Brooklyn. We learned recently that Chad has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Congratulations!
