Harrogate College Higher Education Survey for Businesses
Locally based companies are being encouraged to share their views on higher education provision and business needs.

Research by Harrogate College is helping to identify local higher education needs, with employers invited to complete an online business survey.

From September 2021 new degree courses at Harrogate College will include part-time, flexible study and industry networking.

The Department of Work & Pensions (DWP) is inviting local employers to help young people, through the Kickstart Scheme.

A virtual event on 16 July will explain the opportunities for employers in North Yorkshire to provide fully-funded jobs for 16-24 year olds on Universal Credit.

Covid Safety and Vaccinations: Guidance for the Workplace

Businesses and their employees are being asked to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines in the workplace, as Covid infection cases continue to rise.

A key message for all workplaces in July is to encourage employees to get both vaccination jabs. North Yorkshire County Council has free online resources on Covid safety in the workplace and to support the uptake of vaccinations.

Businesses from across the district are invited to the launch of Harrogate College's Employers' Network.

Being held on 15 July, the Network event will showcase the College's work on creating an employer-led curriculum, and bring local companies together to share feedback on business training needs.
New EU VAT Rules for e-Commerce
Businesses that sell directly to customers in Europe are recommended to check what new VAT rules mean for them.

The VAT rules on cross-border business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce activities changed on 1 July. Detailed guidance is available online.

Changes to the Job Retention Scheme this Summer

Changes to the national Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) came into effect from 1 July.

The UK Government will pay 70% of employees' usual wages for hours not worked, reducing to 60% in Au‌gu‌st and Se‌pt‌em‌be‌r.

Employers will need to pay the difference, so furloughed employees receive at least 80% of their usual wages up to £2,500 a month.
