From the CEO...
We want to thank Governor Sandoval and his newly created Office of Workforce Innovation for recognizing the critical role construction plays in moving our state forward.  Because of our continued efforts, the construction industry now has a sector council in which to voice our concerns/challenges and work with the state to develop solutions.  Special thanks to NBA members Lance Semenko - Q & D Construction and Michael Russel - United Construction for representing our interests on this crucial platform.

We need your help!  In order to stay ahead of your staffing challenges we ask that you take this short  Survey .  This info will be used to help shape future programs and efforts at all levels.  Thank you in advance...

Workforce Development Update
Are you participating in Construction Career Days?? Nevada Builders is involved in these events in Reno and Las Vegas which are designed to introduce Middle and High School students to the many career opportunities in the Construction Industry. Visit us at the Las Vegas event on October 7. Click here for information .  The Reno event will be held on October 25th at the Livestock Event Center Exhibit Hall. We are looking for exhibitors and sponsors!! To participate, click here for information.
Big News! The Construction Gateway program is back at WCN for the Fall Semester. This is an 8-week program designed to provide participants with a well-rounded introduction to the industry. Participants will then be able to seek employment or continue in WNC's Construction Management program.  Upon completion, students receive their OSHA 10, NCCER Craft Laborer 1 and 2 certificates.
We continue to partner with JOIN, Inc. on the Workforce 60 program. If you are looking for new employees or have employees who need additional training, Workforce 60 can help! The program provides pre-screened and trained young adults ready for work.  Any company who takes a Workforce 60 participant for up to 12 weeks of On The Job Training can receive reimbursement for up to 100% of the new hire's wages. Win-win!

Safety Training

Employee Safety Training
The most important step you can take to protect your employees is to train and educate them to the known hazards of the jobs you are asking them to perform.  For example, when you have employees that are working on elevated surfaces and are going to be exposed to falling down to a lower level, you should take the time to make sure that your employees understand what the particular hazards are during this work process and what you are going to do to protect them.  Are you providing guardrails?  How about personal fall arrest systems like a harness, lanyard and anchor point?  Are you asking your employees to operate power tools or use ladders on the job?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, you need to train them.  If you want your employees to approach their work in a safe manner and meet your safety expectations, you will have to teach them what those expectations are and train them how to complete their work safely.  Your efforts will benefit the employees by providing them with the training they need to make good decisions, inspect their equipment, and protect their personal safety and the safety of others.
There is much more to learn and understand about employee safety training and compliance in the construction industry.  It is up to the employer to implement the necessary training programs that protect workers every day on every job.  PGM Safety is here to help.  For more information on Employee Safety Training, or other construction industry safety questions or concerns, please contact PGM Safety Services, an affiliate company of Pro Group Management, and we will be happy to assist when you visit us at or call (800) 859-3177.
