From the CEO...
We are in the heat of the summer, and construction activity is very hot.  With values and permits approaching 2004 levels the needs are many, but workforce continues to be #1.  We continue to work with educators, service providers and training providers to develop systems and programs to feed the industry.  But we need your help, we need to specifically understand your needs so that we can work with the state and others to make our case and meet that demand.  Please email us today...

Demolition Work in Construction

Demolition work involves specific safety hazards that can be deadly when a company fails to assess and plan for the inherent dangers.  Demolition is the dismantling, razing, destroying or wrecking of any building or structure, and the jobs can range in size from small projects to large demolition operations.  Before starting a demolition project, employers should plan ahead to get the job done safely.  When planning for demolition, consider possible approved or unapproved modifications of the building that may have altered the structure from the original design.  You may have materials hidden within structural members, such as lead, asbestos, silica, and other chemicals or heavy metals requiring special material handling; therefore, an assessment of health hazards must be completed before any demolition work takes place.  Consider unknown strengths or weaknesses of construction materials that may need to be removed or disturbed.  Plan ahead for hazards that may be created by the demolition methods used in the process, and always be sure to have your Fire Prevention and Evacuation Plan in place.  Planning for emergencies includes having written procedures for First Aid and Emergency Medical Services.   All employees at a demolition work site must be trained to be fully aware of the hazards they may encounter and the safety precautions they must take to protect themselves and their fellow workers.  There is much more to learn and understand about safe demolition work in the construction industry.  It is the employer's job to implement the necessary training programs, on every job.  For more information on Demolition Work, or other construction industry safety questions or concerns, please contact PGM Safety Services, an affiliate company of Pro Group Management, and we will be happy to assist you at (800) 859-3177
