FHBC Regional Program Fitness & Education session at Richmond Oval
|
|
The athletes from Field Hockey BC Regional Program enjoyed a full day of fitness testings and educational courses on November 9 at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
"This event is a great opportunity for the athletes to experience High Performance fitness testing in a world-class facility with the direction of Sport Science professionals", said FHBC Athlete Program Manager, Donna Cumming.
"The education components provide our players with a deeper knowledge and understanding of the game, and it is a fun way for the athletes to bond with their teammates" she added.
All the U15 and U18 players participated in sprint tests, run the yo-yo and had a full battery of testing anthropometric assessments.
Additionally, the kids also enjoyed a Rules & Regulations Education course with FIH Umpire Tyler Klenk and a Tactics & Strategy session with FHBC Provincial Coach, John Sacré.

Canada Men's team earn spot at Tokyo 2020 in sudden death shootout
|
|
Canada Men's National Team will be at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. They earned their spot after defeating Ireland in a thrilling Olympic Qualifier series, decided by a sudden-death shootout.
The two game series was hosted in West Vancouver at Rutledge, and the field hockey community came together to support the Red Caribous. The stands were crowded - as they should be -, and people even hung themselves on the fences around the pitch to get a glimpse of the games.
In the first match, Ireland beat Canada by 5-3. However, things changed on the second and decisive encounter. The Canadians played their hearts out and managed to tie the series with penalty shootout goal in the last second. The 3-1 win meant things would be decided in a sudden-death shootout, and so it was. Canada won by 5-4 and celebrated a spot in Tokyo 2020.

Ireland defeats Canada Women's team to claim Olympic berth
|
by Field Hockey Canada
Ireland advanced to the 2020 Olympic Games with a dramatic sudden death shootout victory over Team Canada. The two-game series played in front of back-to-back capacity crowds in Dublin was a nail biter from wire to wire.
Zero goals through eight quarters of play set up a thrilling shootout to cap off the Olympic Qualifier weekend. In the shootout, Canada came out firing with goals, but the Irish fought back with a pair of terrific saves by McFerran and two conversions.
With the win, Ireland becomes the first Irish Women’s National field hockey team to qualify for an Olympic Games.
