School Concerts Are Music

 To Our Ears

Each school hosts their own music concert in the winter and spring, featuring the orchestra, band and chorus, plus there is an All-District Choral Concert. Families and community members are invited to attend our theater and music performances! Stay tuned for this spring's HS musical:

Springhurst Pilots Two English Language Arts (ELA) Programs

Springhurst is piloting two ELA programs begining this January 2024, after a year-long review, with the intent of adopting and implementing the most appropriate one school-wide in 2024-2025. The two programs are Bookworms and Wit & Wisdom. Both are aligned with the NYS Standards, the Science of Reading and the needs of our students.

DFSD Alumni... Where Art Thou?

Maeve Gorham (DFHS Class of '23) received the 2023 Metropolitan High School Theater Awards "Outstanding Performance by a Student Critic" in June. Maeve was active in MS/HS Theatre Arts classes and a committed member of the "Rat Pack" technology squad throughout High School. Music teacher Ms. DeFalco had submitted DFHS in the Metro Awards Competition and there was an opportunity for a student from each school in the Putnam, Bergen and Westchester areas to be a critic, and Maeve jumped at the chance.

The Metro Committee sent her to New Jersey to review another high school's show (Pastack Valley), and ironically was the musical "Chicago, Teen Edition" the same as DFHS. Her review was nominated for the best Student Critic Award and she won. (Inside scoop: Maeve thought the Pastack Valley HS production was fantastic and so impressive because they didn't try to make it a Broadway clone). Maeve is presently a freshman at Penn State University majoring in Technical Design/Sound Design. She is working hard, but thoroughly enjoys the hands-on program and is even working on the tech crew for University concerts with visiting performers Drake and Travis Scott. Congrats and so proud of you!

Technology Talk

Our technology staff keeps our schools up and running. Students in grades 3-12 each have their own laptop to use in class and at home in the District's 1:1 Chromebook program. That's 1,158 Chromebooks to maintain and service. The team also works daily with teachers and staff to make sure they are tech-ready for teaching and learnining. Got a tech question?
